Bit of a noob, but the only reason I'm thinking of doing this is that the official Iphone OS only has 9 pages. I buy about 2 to 3 apps a week, and I'm constantly desyncing some that I haven't played for a couple of weeks, just to make room.
So if I jailbreak, do I have room for more than 144 icons ? How does it work, is it like a folder, category system.
I'm using 2.2.1 Iphone on Vista. Does a jailbreak app exist for this, and if so do I have to remove all the apps first from my Iphone before trying it ?
I'm sure there will be other jailbreak apps I'll enjoy using, but I will still be able to buy and sync stuff from the appstore using Itunes when jailbroken ?
cheers

You will still be limited to 9 pages, but you can download a program through Cydia called "categories" which allows you to create folders. This vastly increases the number of apps that can be stored on your device.
Go to http://www.quickpwn.com to find the software you will need in order to jailbreak your phone.
You'll have to backup your phone in iTunes, then remove all of your apps, then close iTunes before you proceed with jailbreaking your phone.
After you jailbreak, you'll still be able to sync in iTunes and purchase apps from the store, and if you encounter any problems or change your mind about jailbreaking, all you'll have to do is restore your phone in iTunes to "unjailbreak" it. Be careful not to download any Apple updates becuase you will have to re-jailbreak your device after each firmware update
If you have questions about all the steps you'll need to take, check youtube, there are tons of helpful step-by-step jailbreaking videos that you can follow along with.
Hope that helps!

I've been thinking...maybe the 9 page limit is because the Interface Builder object only allows 9 pages...what do you think?

There are many of j-applications that can get rid of the limit by using workarounds. Although the new Cydia Store is making you pay for a lot of them.

You can get categories (Folders)
5 icon dock
5 rows horizontally and vertically. I have 25 apps in one page.
five column spring board
five column dock
five row spring board (lol)
categories
stacks
dock
no limit on # of apps
9 pages not necessary with any of the above

The new Cydia Store only has two things in it right now. Cyntact and Voicemail Forwarder. None of the packages before the launch of the Cydia Store cost money other than Intelliscreen, iBluetooth, Chronus, PDAnet, and iBlacklist. The only workarounds to getting rid of the limit is Categories, and also Quick Gold which allows you to hide icons and you press the home button while on your home screen and search for an app. Categories allows you to create folder and store apps in them. Both of these are free. There are no other ones that i know of.

No it's not, what are you talking about? Launcher, gLauncher, Categories, 5 column springboard, 5 rows, there are alot of free applications that can workaround this limit!
