RedLynx indicates that, while the game delivers all the playability of the PC and Mac original, it includes a new “Bubble Level” rotation control and many other new features unique to the iPhone and iPod touch.

I was waiting for somebody to post this up, it looks incredibly awesome for only two bucks. Love the tilting during loops, graphics are great, physics seem good.

Where does it say that?
Did you watch the video? It says it at the end in big bold text with booming sounds effects on each word. Hard to miss. On the front page it says it will be out any day now, so that video may have just got released a tad early.
The camera looks motion sickness inducing.

Oh ok, well it's pretty obvious isn't it? They don't want to create one video a few days before the launch saying, "coming soon", and then another a few days later saying, "out now!", do they?

I own this game on Steam. It's a really fun game with excellent physics. For anyone who has a Steam account you can play a free demo. This should be a perfect game for the iPhone. If it comes out for $2 it will cost you $7 less than on Steam too. Yay iPhone!

the mac version is great. i'm happy even though I paid 20 bucks for it. if the iphone-game is good, i pay 2 bucks with a smile on my face. RedLynx has made great games, Reset Generation (haven't played the ngage game, but on free web game its really good), Trials 2, Monster Trucks.

I hear you, but part of the blame lies with Apple's review process because it is so inconsistent. There are devs with apps that have been in review for weeks if not months. And you can't really blame devs for creating hype. When you think about, it's really the buildup that can make or break the success of a new app.

Yet, some dev's, such as that for GI Joyride, know the exact day and are correct in their forecast...eg, GI Joyride was advertised as coming out on Wed, and it is now showing up in the search window of the app store.

Yeah, but maybe the devs should wait until their apps are approved and listed in the Store before running around trying to hype them. That way they're able to advertise a release date that they KNOW they can meet.

I think you have to look at like software in the world outside of iTunes. There is a lot of marketing that needs to take place to build awareness beforehand to boost sales. And delivery dates slip all the time. Is it right? Of course not, but you still need to do the groundwork prior to launch. With iTunes, you're talking about an even shorter timeframe to sales because of the accelerated product lifecycle.

Believe me, I understand where you coming from. It's annoying when you're waiting and waiting, and it still doesn't show up. On the other hand, you may want to check out G.I. Joyride which is apparently coming out tonight if you can believe it and will tie you over until MTN shows up. :)

I know what you mean - that can be pretty annoying. But as Big Albie says, this all part of the process of trying to sell the game to the biggest amount of people. What I don't like though is why devs decide to say it will be "couple of days" or "Submitted today". As far as I understand it, devs are given the option to delay release to a specific date once the app is approved so why not launch on a set date that you could advertise rather than some random date of apple's choosing?
Anyway, this game looks quite cool, just not sure about the 360 degree rotation thing.

Yeah, anecdotal evidence has shown that developers really don't have any control over when games get pushed to the app store. If they did, Konami wouldn't have told everyone that Metal Gear was coming out on the 19th, then have it slip out late at night a few days earlier.

I have tried MTN and it's really easy. It's not really soft-body physics like Jelly Car. I haven't play GI joyride but from the video it looks more like that. It's nowhere as hard as BoD.
I don't like BoD not because of the difficulty but because of the overall look&feel, the style, the music, etc. So if Trials 2 come to iPhone, I'm more than happy to try it.

Does anyone actually have any idea if this app has been approved? I mean they could be like everyone else and just be stuck in App Store approval limbo? I have a hard time blaming a developer for launch fiascos when it seems to be so far out of their control.

It's definitely been approved because you can see it come up when you search it:

I have a hard time blaming a developer for launch fiascos when it seems to be so far out of their control. They have a countdown timer on their home page, meaning they know when the app will be released. Also, "Monster Trucks Nitro" has been auto-completing in App Store searches for a good four-five days now. The app is there, it's ready to go - they're simply d**king us around, and I don't appreciate it. Therefore, I will be leaving a one-star review for them as soon as I possibly can.

Well, I do want the game. I just don't appreciate their BS attempts at building hype. Other than not buying the game (which is unacceptable) the only way I have of letting them know how I feel is an honest review, not so much of the app, but of the developer.

Yeah, that sounds a bit weird. Don't forget many devs do that too, but probably you just don't know about it since they don't put a countdown timer on their website.
Btw, how can they know when the game would be approved? Why Sway and ZenBound took rather long and no one had idea when they'd be out except 'soon'?

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.
It's those type of reviews "The game crashes" that people laugh at. They are useless reviews and don't help anyone.
A review of "it was supposed to come out 4 days ago, boo hoo" is just good for laughs, nothing more.
Either leave a real review, or don't bother. Or as was mentioned above, don't get the game if you're that angry

How is that honest? You being angry is no reason to be vindicative by taking out on them, by dishonestly leaving a one star review.
Why not actually play the game when it is released and THEN leave the appropriate stars?

Seriously, do not leave one star reviews for anything other than gameplay. If you have issues with installing, price drops, availability delays, those should not be used in your review. It does a disservice to everyone, and frankly is the main problem with iTunes user reviews.
While I understand the frustration with waiting, that's life. Don't penalize the devs, and in the long term, other users.
Hodapp
03-22-2009, 06:12 PM
But people on the App Store are looking for reviews on the actual game. How the developer handled the launch has absolutely no bearing on the quality of the game itself... And one-starring because of how you don't like the launch is kind of crummy. If you don't like how the developer is handling things, don't buy from them.
Buying, then adding a one star review which is completely unrelated to the quality of the game is pretty silly.

I'm going to leave a one-star review for this app because I don't appreciate the developer stringing us (me?) along like they have. When TA previewed the game, they said it would be available in a few days. That was almost THREE WEEKS AGO. For the past week, the game has been ready for purchase, showing up in searches in the App Store (both on the iPhone and in iTunes, if you search for the developer) which means that the only reason the developers are holding it back is to build hype. I personally find that highly annoying, and leaving negative feedback is the only way I have of 'getting back' at the developer. I don't appreciate being d**ked around, and I plan on letting the developer know that.
Don't penalize the devs, and in the long term, other users. It's not about the other users, it's about reduced revenue for the dev.

Why don't you let the developer know by sending them an email and not buying the game? Reviews like the one you're planning to leave are the problem with the way the App Store works right now, and really makes me wish developers were able to either post responses to reviews or petition Apple to remove irrelevant ones.
It's not about the other users, it's about reduced revenue for the dev.
So... you're going to buy the game to reduce their revenue? That... makes... sense.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure I can find SOMETHING wrong with the game itself, rather than with the developer. Also, leaving feedback from both my iPod touch and my iPhone will allow me to bypass the comment requirement, if you want to get right down to it.

Yes, I would have no problem buying an app that had a review like that.As I said, I'm sure I can find something substantial to complain about. Besides, leaving a couple of one-star reviews from my iPod and iPhone will do the trick as well.
Anyway, this discussion is going nowhere, fast. You don't like people leaving reviews based on anything other than gameplay (and I do agree with you, in principal) and I don't like hype-building BS like this developer has apparently chosen to pull. I'm sure you can do a glowing review for TA which will offset my one-star rating. You win. Yay.

The point is that you putting a 1 star review just about the developer not releasing the game straight away isn't helpful at all. Most people don't even know that the game is coming out so they don't care that you're annoyed that the developer held the game back a couple of days.
You should only ever review an app based on the game not the developer.

Mavis unless you work for the developers, how do you have any idea what they're doing? What seems like pre-launch hype to you could be them racing to finish implementing their online scoreboard components or who knows what else.
It's in their best interest to release their game as soon as possible so they can start racking up sales. I highly doubt they're delaying the launch just to mess with you.

@mavis: I think the problem here is that you're making assumptions that the devs intentionally delayed or held the app. I'm not sure if you understand the development process, but there are numerous things that can delay the release of apps. From a consumer standpoint, posting a negative review in hopes of impacting sales because "the product was delayed or not delivered on time" is wrong. Please understand that games and apps are the livelihood of developers, and your reasoning really is selfish. I don't want to disparage you on the forum, but what you've said is plain wrong.

If they were trying to build hype, wouldn't they be spreading pre-release copies of the game all over the internet, advertising all over the place, releasing more videos, posting on forums, etc? How do you know that they're just sitting on their hands to screw with you? If they told Touch Arcade that they just submitted their App on 3/5, and it's just now showing up in search results, I'd say there's a pretty good chance their original one got denied and had to be resubmitted.
You don't go from telling people that your game is going to be available in a few days and your trailer saying it's available now to just stalling for over two weeks without a good reason. With how quick the App Store moves, it's in developers' best interest to release fast... Especially after getting a bunch of free press from various iPhone blogs. If they were trying to build hype, they'd be playing a much different game.
Do you have a source for information online that says otherwise?

Agreed. Other than it sitting in the app store, what hype are they building? No ads on TA, no TV commercials, no ads on IGN or Gamespot or any other sites. So where is this hype you speak of? Your just impatient, and acting childish about them "hyping" a game. The developer hasn't even come on here since the original post about the game, so they are shoving anything in your face and laughing at you about it.
If any developer is hyping a game, only to pull it out from under us, it's EA with Need for speed. But you don't hear a bunch of people saying they are going to give the game 1 star because it's been delayed.
If that's how the world worked, Video games in general would have a terrible rep. They get delayed all the time, there are even companies that are guarenteed to delay almost all of the games they make(here's looking at you Squenix.)
The point is that there is always a reason for the delay, whether it be "hyping" one person for a game, or completely reworking something that was broken. None of it deserves the developer suffering for it by getting bad reviews, as was said before, review it for the game, not the developer in general.
