i sent an e-mail to bulkypix, the developer of Hysteria, and asked when it will be released... and i just received an answer:
"Hi Pante,
The game has been submitted and we are now waiting for approval.

If you're into Choose Your Own Adventure games, then you'll probably want to shortlist Hysteria Project. I know it's on mine :)

As pante mentioned, it definitely has that Blair Witch feel to it which right away makes it different from other Choose Your Own Adventure apps. Not sure if I would worry too much about it being short. Longer doesn't always mean better.

I am definitely picking this one up. It looks way better than that Nick Jr. type game "Alternate Endings" haha.

Alternate Endings wasn't bad. The actors didn't come off too cheesy, and you have to consider it was the first of its kind for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

That's true, it wasn't too bad but I did expect a bit more from it. I'm more of a horror buff so you know I'm leaning more towards Hysteria Project in this genre.

but keep in mind that this game is 30 minutes long ;)
i find alternate endings very good :)

30 minutes is indeed short which saddens me :( And don't worry, I still have Alternate Endings on my iPhone. I didn't delete it ;) hehe..............yet :D

I haven't decided if I'll buy this game yet. I might just because it looks like a lot of effort was put into filming and putting it together.
I'll probably die right away though. I would die first if this was a horror movie. 'Dumdedum, going to check the box in the basement by myself because the lights went out.'

FYI. it has been in submission since the press releases were posted (around feb 23) on various sites.
the game is different and unique and fun.

Would be cool if we could look forward to episodes like a TV show.

im assuming it depends on the success of the first episode. i do know that there are a couple more episodes after this first one.

Looks very interesting and appeals to me since I'm a thriller/scifi/horror fan.
I can see the Blair Witch Project influence for sure. It's super obvious but that's a good thing.

This game is very good! There is about 30-40 minutes of gameplay for $1.99
More episodes are coming that widen the story, don't want to give anything else away

i asked devs one more time about the game. was curious if it was rejected or is just so long in review. here is an answer i received:
Hi the game has not been rejected, but it seems that Apple
is working very hard on firmware 3.0 and the review time is slow at the moment.
I am sure the review will be ok soon.

FYI, Apple made me re-edit some of the video I submitted for The Odyssey.
I wouldn't doubt at all that Apple would make the Hysteria people make video changes, based on where that story seems to be going. Looks pretty good! And only $1.99! Wow!

Anyways I hope Apple lets this through or I will seriously get mad and start questioning the App Store. If it is to "violent" then their should be a warning and "viewer beware". We are mature enough to know what Apps to Buy and what not to.
Any word on this game? When is Apple approving it?

maybe it would happen what happened to hill billy and in maybe a month we'll hear "unfortunately Hysteria Project was rejected (like if we didn't know yet) but it's being resubmitted" and then nothing will happen and we will be waiting for another long time

It's a strong possibility that the content may have not met Apple's requirements and the devs were asked to redo and resubmit. That happens all the time and is beyond the devs' control. The review process itself can delay things, and having heard from other devs regarding app updates (not new games), this can drag on for weeks.

Got the review code some weeks ago, it's not that creepy at all, don't know what takes so long to approve it.
I'm not allowed to report my review to public before the approvel from apple and that was the 9th of March (date i received the review code). So far I won't recommend it, with a playtime below 30 minutes, which is not worth the money anyway in my opinion.

You can't get a review code since it hasn't been approved. I believe they only sent out preview builds.
Also, no one pulled ANYTHING out. Apple still hasn't approved it.

Well I emailed the dev maybe on Saturday morning and he answered like on Monday saying that "the game is still on review and has not been rejected. It's just a little bit too long"
I'm looking forward to this too and I hope apple let this one through quicky coz I'm tired of waiting too.

How does Apple expect devs to produce episodic content if it keeps dicking around devs like this? I think any app that takes over 2 weeks to approve should warrant Apple contacting the dev and telling them what's up, so at least they'll know what to do.

I tend to agree. I think the content may be been deemed to be too much fo the Apple censors, and the devs are having to go back to the drawing board.

I would have thrown a sh!t conniption to the devs if they were bullcrapping me.
Fact of the matter is, games of this content sits at Apple's bin for a loooong time (see Hill Billy, Zombie Mangle).
Yes, both apps have been rejected for apple. Hill Billy submitted with green (?) blood and Zombie Mangle did that as well and now exists as ALIEN Mangle.
It's tough to decide how HYSTERIA plays out since they can't simply edit the blood footage to have a different colored blood.
I'm still hoping Apple approves it and slaps it with a Mature rating if they're really that conservative.
