Just a quick question, not sure if anyone else has asked but: If I have a second gen. iPod touch jailbroken running 4.0, and I go to iTunes and update to 4.1 without restoring, will it brick my iPod? Will it erase my data?

Then,
if I were to wait until next jailbreak for 4.1, will I be able to just "rejailbreak" on top of the previous jailbreak without restoring or erasing data?

Thanks! :D

1. You can't brick an iPod/iPhone.
2. You can Update to 4.1, all your data will not change. You just won't be able to see/access any jb apps and cracked apps won't sync.

If you need 4.1 badly, go ahead. If you value being jailbroken I would wait a few days for news.

Or you could download the 4.1 firmware from somewhere, upgrade to that through iTunes and then jailbreak again :)

Sorry didn't read the post properly, I thought you meant 4.0.1!

You can upgrade to that through iTunes and re-jailbreak :)

You should wait for a couple of days, as the new update 4.1 will be jailbreakable! Link: http://blogs.computerworld.com/16916/yes_jailbreak_ios_4_1_on_iphone_4_3gs_ipad_ipod_to uch_4g_via_pod2g?source=t5

1. You can't brick an iPod/iPhone.

This is false.

This is false.

I think he is just meaning it is very hard to brick the devices. As more often than not you can fix it with DFU mode.

Show me a case of an iPhone being actually "bricked"?
It can always be put in dfu mode, which makes it fully recoverable.

The process for entering dfu mode is mechanical so to speak, not software dependent so you can't break it through any user interaction with the device.

So it's been quite a bit longer than a "few" days since the 10th. What's this news we were to supposed to hear about?

Doesn't that only JB 2G Touch & 3G iPhones though?

EDIT:

Yea its still confined to only those devices.
