Query about backing up (to Mac) saved game data from iPhone...

Quick question – imagine the scenario...

I play a progressive level-based game on my iPhone, and I get up to say level 10, unlocking those 10 levels.
I then sync my iPhone and my Mac in the usual way.

My question is, will the saved game data (the 10 unlocked levels) be backed up to my Mac from a regular sync, so that if I delete the app off my iPhone and then put it back from my Mac, they show up as being unlocked on the iPhone?

Or in order to achieve what I'm after, do I have to do a right-click > Back Up on the iPhone in the iTunes list?

Or does NEITHER of these options work, in terms of backing up saved game data?
Does anyone know?
