All I can say is looking at these screens and seeing these themes it makes iOS4 backgrounds look dinky. I really wish Apple would just allow themes officially. I have some questions about Jailbreaking:

How safe is it and what are the risks? Does running themes drain battery life? Is iOS4 going to have an untethered jailbreak and work with themes? Does it affect the speed of the ipod? Can you still purchase apps through the app store? Finally is the SNES emulator worth it?

If I ever did it I would be running it just pretty much the same as I run it now clean and mostly for music with some games/apps that I enjoy with only the addition of themes, and the SNES emulator.

Hey Duke, hope these help:

Pretty safe as long as you don't upgrade of play around too much with the file system. Themes do drain the battery but as long as you have a 3rd gen like you do it will be barely noticeable. iOS4 will be untethered and themes will work and the speed will be slightly slow but all games should play fine. You can still purchase apps the same way but sometimes DLC gets messed up but you can find fixes online. If you like SNES games then yes.

I would wait however for the iOS4 jailbreak instead of jailbreaking now. Also, remember to backup your iPod in iTunes and once jailbroken backup your blobs (search for that), that way if theres issues and you lose your jailbreak you can downgrade.

Ohh ok. Well the time/date display is a widget, download it HERE (http://cl.ly/800db5b6a9f0240f02bd) [I think that's the right one] Just SSH into your device and add the folder to your themes folder, then activate it through WinterBoard.

You'll also need to download Clockhide from Cydia, but if you're on iOS4 you're out of luck because it isn't compatible yet :/ Otherwise the standard time display will lay over the widget.

That is still a mystery to me as well..I could never figure out how the hell I did it lol.

My only guess is that Clockhide must've been the culprit, I can't think of anything else that would've done it.

Yeah, its one of the ClockHide options in the Settings menu

Oh really? Hmm that's odd then.. The only thing I can think of is that they pulled it temporarily maybe? If you Google for the .deb file you should be able to install it that way.

So far I haven't found any themes that I like, largely because the ones that change icons only change icons they know about, and then the rest stick out like a sore thumb. The stock iOS theme looks best so far.

I would just like to do stuff like make the icon labels black, for when I have a light colored background. Better would be if I could create a black rounded-rectangle background for the labels, so they'd show up regardless of the background picture, bright or dark.

2 themes i have really liked are Illumine and Alit. they both change the icons so they all have the same shape

Due to people taking his Illumine theme and selling it as their own, iKon has removed Illumine from the repositories. To get the theme now, you can go to his personal web page for his themes (http://taptounlock.me/) and make a donation. He doesn't set a price. I think I sent him $6.66, but some give more and some give less. Once you have donated, he'll send you a download link, and you can find installation instructions on that web page.

To get the user-created add-on icons for the theme, you have to go through the Illumine user icons thread (http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=485081) and find icons you like and manually install them (the same way you installed the theme as noted above).

You can get pretty good guidance on how to do things in the icon request thread if you hit this page and read GroundTrooper's post on June 21 at 11:22 am (http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16796363&p=600).

NOTE:
Finally, and probably MOST IMPORTANTLY once you have the theme, there is a fix you need to apply in iOS 4 to get Illumine's masking to work for icons which aren't included. The theme will magically fix generic icons to mostly look right, but you need to apply fix number 1 from this thread (http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16796363&p=600) (although as I post this that link is timing out - it should work later).

Hopefully I wrote that well enough that you can understand and find the resources necessary to get this amazing theme working.

This is the first time i thinking of installing a them in winterboard.Does doing so slow down your phone significantly?? Am using an iphone 3g. Also am only interested in installing a wallpaper---don't like the black color behind the icons.No other changes.Is there any option to only install a image as a background wallpaper?? But yea, just put the Icons folder in your theme folder (so your theme folder has a Bundles and Icons folder). Then make sure Summerboard is set to On (in Winterboard).

For music, the folder (in Bundles) should be called com.apple.mobileipod and the icons should be named icon.png and icon@2x.png.

For videos, the folder (in Bundles) should be called com.apple.videos and the icons should be named icon.png and icon@2x.png (I think). I currently don't have my videos app themed, so this information may or may not be right :P

For mail, the folder (in Bundles) should be called com.apple.mobilemail and the icons should be named Icon.png and Icon@2x.png. Like you, I had problems theming my mail app, but it works now and this is what I have it set to :P
