Robocalypse is fantastic in its own right and perfectly developed for the iPhone (I expect C&C will be brilliant of course, but I do wonder how well it will translate on iPhone)

Official Red Alert is a godsend for this platform IMO, but in the meantime I have to agree that Robocalypse is a great, fun, game. Also th online multi in Warefare works beautifully, gets me excited for what RA could be with a multiplayer addon.

Ehhhhh I'm not so sure... Rock Band will sell more than either of those (the RTS genre is likely not popular with the casual crowd). NFS:S will be their next "flagship" game, if you will.

That's not true. Age of Empires played quite well on my moto razr, and I think it was well reviewed on the pocket pc back in the day.

It's a j2me game dude, or java game for the unintiated! It's a null comparisson! Anarchy 2087 is a great rts for java capable phones but again i don't see java games in the same league as psp/ds/idevice games!

I played it and controls are quite quirky! I find it very tedious to play an rts with a phone keypad! Rts are perfect for the touch screen!

Well you obviously didn't play it. Age of Empires PPC was for Windows Mobile Devices with a Touchscreen and has been out for ages. It plays really awesome. Was my favourite PPC game besides tomb raider 1. Damn we really need a Tomb Raider game on the iPhone !

Look at Need For Speed Undercover. It was announced for release last year around this time. Then it was delayed for 6 months? Or something like that.

I don't think that ever happened. Undercover was scheduled to release in Fall of 2008, also demoed at Apple's iPod event. Then .... Fall went by, Winter went by, Spring went by... and finally released in May 6th 2009.

No announcements and no comments were made about the delay.

Uh... no. The PSP and DS have far deeper games for the hardcore crowd that RTS games appeal to. That is why we have not seen many RTS games for the iPhone.

I have played this version of C&C and it is very casual. There is no multiplayer, 2 skirmish maps, and 10 missions spread over 2 campaigns. Apparently there will be DLC also. Its beautifully made, don't get me wrong, but this is not for the hardcores.

Don't hold out for much hope. The fact that they say it's released 'soon' and EA Mobile on Twitter says 'don't know anymore other than soon' translate into sometime roughly in the next few weeks.

I love all Command and Conquer games! I love my Iphone 3GS. This game is going to be so sweet!!!!! I wish they would have rolled it out on the original date! Only excuse I would like would be they added online multiplayer!! I wish I knew what was really going on.

True, but you don't need to hope on that, EA has never made any iPhone Game with Online multiplayer, i wonder what their problem is.. They have pogo network which shows that a high quality network wont be a problem for them.. I am still wondering why they don't want to make money.. Believe me if most of there games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Game of life, Need for speed Fifa 10 , NBA live, Rock Bank and C&C has online multiplayer.. They will earn x 100 higher of what they are currently earning on iphone platform.. This is a physical truth. All there games requires online multiplayer but they lack in this aspect.. I want to dislike EA I really do after they botch their October 23 release that for C&C! We all know that game is already approved and it's just a business decision that cost it to be moved but I can't !Not after they gave me Rockband and NBA!

Now that you mentioned it I also noticed the same thing. EA is really holding back on something here. I noticed too that Gameloft is showing one game hidden. Possibly because they discovered some last minute bug and decided to pull it before release. Either this, or it's a business decision. (Seeing Rockband going 6.99 for the weekend means probably no release until the weekend's over).

I was watching the demo video and the new screenshots on the new iphone C&C website, and I am surprised that no one's mentioned these things so far:


- from the screenshots, all the maps look Very Small. the bases look like they are almost built next to each other.

- No civilian buildings to garrison. (There's one screenshot with a few buildings, but not sure if you can garrison).

- there seems to have No Naval units at all! (one of the biggest parts for the series no?) There's hardly any sea in any of the screenshots on the website (including all of the new ones)

- There seems to be only 3 infanty and 3 tanks and 2 aircrafts for both sides.. and a "hero" Tanya / Natasha. So the whole game only has only 8-9 units per side?

- None of the units have special abilities other than the basic attack. Even Tanya and Natasha have no special abilities. No time belt no vehicle sniping. No calling airstrikes.

- The refineries don't have a collector, it's just a stand alone building.

- The buildings are recycled from Red Alert 2. Barracks, Power, Refinery, Contrusction Yard, Tank Factory, Airfield, and a Tech building. Each side also seems to have two defensive structure.

- From the video, it looks like units have No Voice responses except for special Commandos (Tanya and Natasha).

- The zoom looks like was only made for eye candy. It dosen't look like it's useful at all. It zooms into this narrowed angle that makes everything very difficult to see anything.

- Each side have a "super weapon" that takes over a spot of your screen near the top.

- No cutscenes. This is totally not EA's flagship game. Need For Speed yes. Red Alert no.


This looks like a incredibly stripped down version of the game. Not the "full core experience" claimed by EA. Which is by all means expected though.

To be fair, the stuff that I pointed out is obvious from the screenshots and videos. Actually, I am very glad that we have someone who has tried the demo can acknowledge these things.

EA did have a full playable game that they were demoing sometime ago so really, anyone could have played the game if they were there (and know what the game has).

It's to our best interest to look forward to a rock solid game... but it seems that EA isn't delivering it (at least it was to me). Maybe one reason for the delay would have been for them to add more content first. And I am hopeful that that's the case.

And to think that Tim did play the game and would have been easy reply to gospel's post that there are indeed more units in the game instead of just saying that he is almost spot on, he focuses on the negatives more than the positive and I can hardly call that impartial! Thank for those videos. The first video really proved me wrong about the interface. It seems to work really well and not cluttered.

As for the units.. well, I said there were around 8-9 per side, plus a hero. Maybe I missed counted the engineer. If you don't count Natasha as an infantry, you have the Bear, Conscript, and Flak Trooper. That's 3. Engineer would be a 4th. Which is still pretty good. But still lacking. Don't get me wrong though, I am still going to try the game out as soon as I could. Let's just hope that there's more.

I am sorry if this has already been answered in the thread already. I am brand new to this site.

Reading the preview, the editor states that he hasn't played Red Alert for the PC for about 10 years. But this game looks nothing like the original Red Alert 1. When I first read about Red Alert for iPhone, I thought it was going to be a port of the original game, but it's clearly not.

Has it been confused with the original? There are different units, structures and maps than in Red Alert 1 for PC and the game as a decidedly "3D feel" to it, allowing pinch zooming.

I Think STP Tim is comparing this too much to the console version instead of putting into perspective that this is an RTS for a handheld and as far as I can remember it may be the prettiest yet ever! If this is the way STP Tim review games then I will be hard pressed to see his opinions as a good basis of my purchasing descisions.
