The sad thing is that I probably have a copy of one of the earlier games in the series lying around somewhere. I tend to be really bad about buying stuff off of the bargain racks and then never playing them...

Command and Conquer rules. Tiberium wars is the best of the franchise, and pretty fast pace in the newer games.

Yeah, that's when they were trying to expand the franchise to appeal to a wider range of users. The original C&C games were all straightforward RTS games.

Funny you mention Mystery House...I didn't know about that game until this forum, and Frotz was a revelation for me. I still have Frotz on my device because I find it enjoyable.

Funny you should mention Frotz, because I downloaded it a never actually got around to trying it. That's the problem when you've gone through as many games as I have in as short a time span as I have, though. A lot of them tend to go away without getting played.

Tell me about it. I'm in the same situation...having a bunch of games that I just gotten around to play. Frotz is actually pretty good, and it has more stories that you can imagine. I had issues with some of the commands at first, but I've gotten used to them.

Indeed. I'd also love for this to come to the iPhone in some form. I'm sure it would need changing a bit controls wise but I fully believe it could be done.

Maybe it would need to be changed into a game type where you can join and leave servers without having to play 1+ hour games as people would get phone calls, need to stop, etc. As an idea have servers where you can join and leave as you please, level up farming a bit, push and such. When one base dies the server resets and the game restarts. So if a player leaves, someone else can rejoin and quickly level and item up to be a fighting force on that team.

Still this is the C&C thread and I cannot wait for this to come either :)

Wait... Command and Conquer is a real-time strategy, as in you control units indirectly by watching the battlefield. Like starcraft and warcraft... so I dont know hwo that will work in FPS view

I've been waiting a pretty long time for this game, but how can they not include multiplayer? That's what made Red Alert a classic to me and most of my friends. It worked perfectly on my 56k modem back then so there should be no reason they can't pull it off on the iPhone.

Yeah, omitting multiplayer is a pretty big deal for me as well. The game definitely looks well done though. The visuals are outstanding (full 3D!) and the interface looks well designed.

Yes, but there is skirmish, so much replayability. And different scenarios for the factions

Most prominent was the news that although Command & Conquer: Red Alert will launch as a single player, local wi-fi and Bluetooth multiplayer will be added in an early update. I'd hoped we might see remote multiplayer (even if it was restricted to wi-fi, but no specific mention of such an elaborate feature as yet).

Downloadable map packs, available through in-game purchases, were also announced, though no word on pricing. It's hard to imagine a single map pack running up much more than 59p, but there's every chance that bulk purchases or extra special content might yet require additional funds to keep the Red Alert war machine oiled.

I won't flame you. The basic objective of Command and Conquer is the title of the game, you Command your troops and Conquer the enemy. Oh, and it comes out this friday. I LOVE COMMAND AND CONQUER. It's the best RTS ever.

C&C: Red Alert is about time travel and its concequences. The first one started with Einstein removing Hitler from history. As a result WW2 never happened and soviets launched an attack. IIRC the sequels were about the losing side using time machine to go back before other side went back and blablabla... :) Have not played for a very long time but I remember how much fun I had with it on my old ps1

But they are just holding it back for next friday because they want everyone to buy Rockband this weekend. They can't send an updated version of the game because if they did that, it will take even longer and further away into November.

Robocalypse is fantastic in its own right and perfectly developed for the iPhone (I expect C&C will be brilliant of course, but I do wonder how well it will translate on iPhone)
