Yes, I've searched, but nothing has helped me thus far. I'm using Pwnage to jailbreak my iPod on my Mac. When the step came to put iPod Touch into DFU mode, I held down power and home button for 10 seconds, releasing the power button, while still holding the home button for another 8-10 seconds. I thought I was in DFU mode (black screen, unresponsive home and power button), but when I typed the command ./rslite into Terminal, it said apple mobile device not in recovery or DFU mode. Anyone know my problem?

I;m thinking, restore it and press shift while restoring to get DFU mode???

Thats my guess.

The problem: In short, Mac OSx 10.5.6 update disabled DFU mode for devices.

The solution: Keep The newest version of your OS and rewrite this file.

You need to download this disk image on this site:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=2493

and follow the instructions word for word. If you can use your device to keep the web page up do so.

don't worry it'll rewrite for you, all you have to do is download and tap.

when it gets to the time to reboot, reboot and touch nothing until you get a mouse cursor.

I was kind of nervous about this but it worked just fine, and there are other sources with this same method.

Just use google when you have a question about device stuff. if you still can't find anything then go to the forums but chances are you can find it faster by yourself if you type in the right words.

From what your discript. sounds like this should help you. Hope it does.

NOTE:
my suggestion pertains only to enabling DFU mode and not Jailbreaking. I'm not trying to get banned again

If this is the solution to your problem please post that it has worked for any other forum member looking for a solution to this common problem.

I don't even have 10.5.6. I'm using OS x Tiger 10.4.11 (very old version of mac).

Then perhaps you should have provided that information in your intial question.

Update your software

Sadly, I can't update because I don't have the necessary requirements to update to 10.5. I guess I'm screwed. =/

From the Dev-Team blog:

Fixing DFU mode on 10.5.6

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. with some Macs. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but here is another method that can be used to temporarily restore DFU functionality in order to use QuickPwn or PwnageTool.

You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33 (http://is.gd/hQrP)” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices, at the most leave a Keyboard and Mouse connected.
Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
Reboot your system!
Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
Download the disk image “ (http://is.gd/hQrP)IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55” (http://is.gd/hQrP)
Intall IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg from within the disk image
Reboot your system!
Reattach your USB peripherals.

I have a new Macbook and everything worked fine for me. He also said he's on an old version of Tiger 10.4.11 so I don't think he could have a new Macbook.

I actually have a Powerbook G4. It's a very old version of the Mac.
