You Name Our Game!

We are currently in development with our new up and coming 2D action platformer where your character is a Spartan Warrior, capable of battling an onslaught of foes and given the opportunity to upgrade your weaponry and armor. (Although it has to do with Sparta, it is NOTHING like 'Hero of Sparta.')

We aren't going to release any more details until next week, but let me get to the point.

The project is named only as "iSpartan Project." That is not the name we want to launch with, so we decided we wanted to hear some suggestions from our "audience" here at Touch Arcade. Feel free to post a suitable name for our game given the introductory description.

NOTE: If you feel like being immature, then feel free to post into another thread.

Out of the choices you gave I think - Sparta: Lords of War - is the best of those mostly for being the most orginal out of those.

The others seem too much like HoS or a 300 line ripoff. Not that it would be bad for sales I dunno its a crazy market out there. But personally I dont like titles that do that myself.

You're right about Argos...I knew that name sounded familiar.

We originally were going to call it iSpartan, but after looking into it we discovered that iDracula was successful despite its name, not because of it. The biggest criticism of iDracula appeared to be its biggest problem.

While the name is Lycurgus, of course, it doesn't mean it is THE Lycurgus (as the dates wouldn't match between the "founding" of Sparta as a warrior culture and any sort of Persian led assault). But it might mean that the Lycurgus in the game, the player/character, is a descendant of THE Lycurgus (as one of the customs among the ancient Greeks was naming the first born child after the grandfather or father), which, y'know...would be kinda cool if you think about it. ;)

Spiffy- Your idea for the unnamed character is brilliant. Because he is descendant from such a noble lineage, the pressure is on to prove that he is worthy of following in his heroic ancestor's footsteps...thus providing an interesting back story to the game and motivation for his actions. :)

I think you should keep it simple but catchy. A lot of what I read here is too cheesy for me. "The Spartan" as name for the hero and the game is kinda cool, but reminds me a lot of the Master Chief from Halo. Although to give him just a kind of nickname instead of a real name makes him more mythical. For me at least.

I can imagine you want sparta in any kind of way integrated in the title in terms of better sales. So, the ones I´d liked the most out of this thread so far are:

I think we may go with Athos, if any name at all. (Possibly leave it up to the player.)

Lycurgus was a great suggestion (Creator of the Spartan military lifestyle.), but it is hard to remember and spell.

I can see where your coming from with the first part but not with the second because that would be misleading. Sparta and Spartan battles took place way after the bronze age so a potential buyer might assume the game is based in prehistoric times, when the bronze age took place.

Yes, next week.

It could be Monday or it could be Friday. It actually should be released to Apple by next Friday if it goes according to schedule.

We are actually going to hold a pretty cool contest, if anyone is interested in Spartan armor. We were going to hold a contest where the first place winner won a sword used by our Spartan, but decided for legal purposes to use a "Spartan Helmet" instead.

For example:
Version 1.0 - Core Game at $ .99.
Version 1.5 - Add New "Features" (Multiplayer, etc.) Price 1.99
Version 2.0 - Add New chapters, gameplay modes, etc. Price 2.99

This will inspire early adopters which gives us more financial capital to add GREAT features since the early adopters get a inexpensive version of the game.

HOWEVER, don't be confused. The core game will be a FULL game. The add-ons are simply that, add-ons. This way to can save our customers money in the beginning as we build great games over the life of the game.

I like your idea of game pricing. It feels much fairer for the price to rise at first, especially while there are still updates.

After updates are finished and the game drops out of the top 200 (or something) it should probably go down in price though. Given the extremely short life of the current set of iphone games, it doesn't really make sense for a 6-month/1-year old game to still be selling for the original price.

Or is that just because I'm a consumer? :D

I completely agree about not saying something like "... of Sparta" because people will automatically think HoS. However, I do think some form of "Sparta" should be in the title so a consumer can immediately tell the theme of the game and people seem to enjoy all things Sparta, which is a plus.
