hi, im K.T.F, and I'm a rapper trying to get signed... and I am also a developer. what I want to announce is that i am creating a 2d top down drift game called D.R.F.T.. so far, I basically have the core gameplay down, but i want to ask, what should be in the game?( i do not want to add points to the game yet until i get some bugs fixed)

It is somewhat like a touge mountain drift game, and some tracks. right now, I need someone who knows how to draw a track, and also consider this is my first project, so i cant add everything people might want. i could put up a picture, but I havent learned how to embed pictures in the forums.

It looks like the old gta games, or maybe black mamba racer.

You can attach files by clicking on the little paper clip icon when writing a post.

Or if you have it uploaded to a website and have a link for the picture you can place around the link and it will embed as well.

Hope we get to see some pictures :)

here is some average track I just made cos I was bored.
it's not all that good, but if you want something basic, I can do it :)
Obviously if it was actually for something, I would do a much better job :P

well yeah. I was just bored and found this. Didn't want to spend TOO much time on it ;P

If you want it to look really nice do it in Sketch-Up. It does the shadows and stuff and is easier to build a track in.

When it's done just go up; top-down angle and take a picture. I'll see if I have time tomorrow to show you an example.

mm.. if I didn't have to do two assignments and study for a physics test, perhaps I would have put in at least a decent amount of effort, but I couldn't tonight. I was bored, and just randomly decided I would have a go at this..

dont worry. it's pretty good. i dont want to do like the job; i just wanna show an example. its simple so he could do it himself.

K only had a few minutes. The trick is to do it small scale. I did it too big. So close up the details seemed fine and everything:

http://forums.toucharcade.com/picture.php?albumid=102&pictureid=492

But from the top since it was so big the details vanished:

http://forums.toucharcade.com/picture.php?albumid=102&pictureid=491

But you get the idea. The model above is kinda crappy cause I only had a few minutes. But you should get the idea.

Game idea is cool. You will get good tips and advice here :)

Not to be OT......but I checked your myspace page. Your music is good man keep at it. Have you checked out Beatmaker for iphone / itouch? You would get a kick out of it. Its an amazing program.

"I got somethin 4 ya" beat reminds me of Hero by Nas....I like that track nice work!

all comes with free sketch-up.
google sketch-up that is

notice that the outside grass is greener than the one inside the track ;)

You should have these bonus stages where you go to the junkyard and steal parts for your car. Also, it would be kind of funny if you had some sort of a storyline, kind of like Initial D, except the main character would be a little fatter and shoulder ram all his opponents after he loses. :(

Heck yes, a top down racing game. I can never got enough of those. Hopefully this will be great, I always wanted a game like GeneRally on the iPhone.

I don't wanna be the one to break it to you my bro but.............................you need to work on the graphics stuff...................now.

PM me a list of the stuff you need to be done in Photoshop (the visual stuff). I'll look up a good / simple tutorial for you and if I have time even help you out and do a few for you. I'll keep it a secret / to myself. I'll agree to a NDA if you feel it is necessary. Just a list of the visual stuff in your game.

The game has to look appealing to people............so like I said I think Sketch-Up would be the way to go. It'll be the easiest way to make it look good and it's free.

Oh, dont worry, I still haven't added all that yet. I have someone doin' my tracks and cars as we speak, and i know this is ugly right now, but there are few games online like this that I can get a good reference from. I tried sketchup and it looks good, but I'm still not understanding certain things about it, like turns and stuff.

Try the help section of sketch up? I don't know of a tutorial to help you out. But I suggest you use a mouse with a wheel on the top to use it. Make's it much easier. I'm working on a little something to show u. Hang on a sec

Here's a better idea I guess. Sketch-Up has it's textures built-in. This is crappy cause it was done in a rush and without much effort. But you get the idea. I think this looks better than what you're doing now. Shouldin't be harder than what you're doing now though.

I suggest you try to do a new racing concept because street racing is very overused. But if this is a gta game try adding some humor. I like humor ;)

yeah, but this isnt really street racing; its more just a homage to amateur drifting and top down racing game. i also have no idea what kind of story this would have.

i might also do a gymkhana level like the DC shoes/Ken Block videos.

okay, here is a video, but the screengrab program' quality really sucks:mad:, one being that big red "demo version" text, and the quality, but other than that, hopefully it looks okay.

note that the game is VERY far from done, but this is simply what i have so far, so any suggestions are good. and that music is produced by me also.:)

ok i must say first off, i just saw the thread for your game for the first time today. after reading thru the whole thing and watching ur screenies become better and better... WOW. that video was awesome, i love those kind of games where u try to control the car while doing insane dirfts. a couple things for me to add would be story, i saw someone mentioned having something like an initial d story, i agree with this opinion! obviously goes without say, but multiplayer would be great for this type of game. and third thing(i know this is nit picky) i saw ur points still go up when u do drifts off track... noooo!!! haha keep it up, i have definately gained excitement for this project

My exact thought, if anything you should lose points...

@ktfright
I think it's amazing how far you've come with this game, I remember before you even started this game and were talking more about your music talents trying(i think?) to get your music in games. It's pretty inspiring to see you do this all by yourself, great job.

I also agree with blk04a4 about multiplayer being a great addition and another I had in mind was a time trial(rack up as many points in a certain time or see how long it takes you to get a certain amount of points) also maybe a mode were you have to get a certain score in a certain amount of laps(or is that what it already is?). Whatever the case good luck and great job, cant wait to see how everything turns out.

ktfright
07-24-2009, 03:37 PM
thank, ill fix all those things and add some things to the game. the game is really just doing three laps with as many points as possible.

just added buttons to the game, better ones, but i dont know if they need to be transparent or not. its no nano rally, but i think its coming along nicely.

Yeah, I'd definitely go with transparency. It makes visual feedback easier. And this is just an idea I think would be cool for you to toy around with:

Instead of having two different button, have one button you slide, like the iPhone unlock screen. Drag to the left, turn left, drag to the right, turn right. Just consider it. I can help with the coding if you want ;)

i'd say get rid of those L and R buttons and put in a horizontal slider like Gang$tar uses - it's pretty easy to use, and you could turn from left to right without lifting your thumb

also put people for the boundaries on one track (like in F&F: Tokyo Drift) and the more people you kill, the less points you get - you have to drift between them. zero fatalities = best score

ktfright
08-24-2009, 01:04 AM
okay, ill put that in the maybe with the people idea, but ima try and do the gangstar method, i just have to figure out how to do that on gamesalad.
