Classic futuristic sports game boasting intuitive, hard-hitting gameplay, super-slick visuals, innovative controls and brutal competition in both single and multiplayer modes.
The Bitmap Brothers’ classic game, with an existing fan base of millions, has been remade for the iPhone generation by Tower Studios, Vivid Games & The Bitmap Brothers
The game offers two control systems: a classic, soft joypad and an innovative, intuitive tilt-to-move variant meaning the whole screen can be seen at all times on the iPhone. Simple one-button controls mask a game of enormous depth and strategy both on the pitch and in the locker room as teams use any tactic necessary to beat the opposing team. Other enhancements include brand new visuals designed specifically to showcase the iOS devices and local multiplayer competitions across Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,
The game includes Quick Matches, Leagues, Cups, Tournaments and a comprehensive Career Mode offering a full upgradable player transfer market and the new Speedball Champions League.
This is the best version of Speedball 2 since the original and no other remake of any classic title available on the App Store is in the same league as Speedball 2 Evolution. A combination of fast-based cartoon violence, tongue-in-cheek humour, and perfect playability make this the ideal handheld sports title for veteran Speedball players or newcomers to this most competitive of sports.
Press quotes:
“The future sport title – think handball with added violence – was one of the very best Amiga games, especially on multiplayer.” – The Guardian
“A dream-come-true for a sizable swath of oldschool iOS gamers...” – TouchArcade

Tilt and Virtual joystick controls

Correct

That's too bad; although it still looks like quite a good game. I've never played it before though, so I'm on the fence. I do wonder if you can create and edit players, and make extensive roster moves. This could be somewhat less important than it would be in a game with "real" players, perhaps.

Its a classic game. Back in the 90's on the Amiga/Atari ST (16 bit computers) it was just a great polished playable game.

Its a bit like a futuristic sport in the film Rollerball ? Basically guys skating on ice but with 'american football' style pads on and can basically beat each other up. They carry the ball, can throw (pass) it to each other, pick up coins to get better armour etc/players and other power ups (eg freeze the other team players), you can beat up another player, injure them so bad they have to get carted off

Throw the ball in the opposing teams goal, its very simple. The great graphics, little bits (like the guy shouting 'ice cream ice cream!' just makes it an excellent game. Best of all its so playable

I loved this game back in the 90's so cant wait to play it over and over on my ipod touch.

Oh, instant buy for someone who remembers those olden days fondly.

I guess there is little hope, but I still will hope for this: online multiplayer. It would be an absolute dream for all those of us who used to play Speedball 2 on our Amigas, wishing there was some way we could challenge players across the world...

Also, here's to the hope other classics will find their way onto our iOS devices. Stuff such as The Chaos Engine (same developer as Speedball 2) and Brutal Sports Football.

The premise of the game: a very brutal mesh of handball, rugby and american football. Throw the ball into the other team's goal, but don't forget to leave a few unconscious bodies behind while yer at it. There is also season/career modes, with different teams and players, at least reasonably extensive player customization, and a player market, bestowing quite a lot of persistence and staying power upon the gameplay.

I'm a big fan of the Bitmap Brothers and Speedball 2 Brutal Deluxe. I can't wait to see if they remake Gods. This is my top pick for the day.

Has this actually been built by the original 'Bitmap Brothers' or is this just licensed? I'm hoping the game-writing gods have built this - because back in the day, everything they did was awesome.

I'd LOVE to see Magic Pockets and GODS ported to IOS!

Jamie.

I'm going to have to buy some credit just for this one game if it's even a patch on the old Amiga version though I won't regret it. Speedball 2 was in my opinion the best game on the system although between me and friends we broke a lot of joysticks playing it.

I'm really hoping this is a good version even though I have my doubts about the touchscreen.

Yes, actually, quite a bit, but in a sci-fi setting. Less violent, but still with violence aplenty, and a bit faster.

I never understood the appeal of this game. Then again I also thought the Bitmaps were wildly overrated. I really enjoyed "Gods" and played through it a number of times, but everything else of theirs just struck me as being very mechanical and soulless.

This iDevice version strikes me as being puzzlingly overpriced. Particularly without online play. Free with an in-game unlock AND multiplayer was the way to go with this I think, as there are only so many old gamers out there who'll pay the premium for nostalgic value, and only so many of THOSE who have forgotten about the appeal curve of this as a single player game.

Love the original myself but I'm not 100% sure about this with touchscreen controls and the screenshots actually look a lot less detailed and more cartoon like to me than the old Amiga version.

As much as I'm tempted to buy this one as soon as it hits I'm not going to I want to see some reviews and video of it in action beforehand.
