What's a promo code?

I feel really really stupid for asking this, it I searched and nothing came up. What is a promo code and how would I enter it?

should be in lounge, but, a promo code is a code that you redeem in the app store by clicking on the redeem button (like gift cards) and pasting the code in. They are 1 time use, and you usually get them from devs.
