Hi, I was wondering how I can unjailbreak my 32gb ipod touch 3rd gen. I used greenpoison to jailbreak. This is because I want to upgrade my firmware to 4.3.1 - I'm currently on 4.2.1. After that, I plan to jailbreak again.

Thanks for reading

Just reload the original Firmware with Itunes.
Hold down the Shift button while pressing Restore.

But... you can upgrade straight to the latest one also.
Just Update the FW and then JB with Redsnow.
Works great, and saves you from putting everything back on it again

According to what I'd read, though, if you don't restore first, you will end up with wasted space, so they recommend restoring. It's painful, but perhaps worth it.

Doesn't restoring mean you'll wipe your phone clean of everything? App data, contacts, music, videos?

Just make sure you are either syncing, in which case you'll get the backups automatically, or that you manually backup. In itunes, right click the icon for your device in the left side bar and choose Backup, or whatever it says. Something like that. Let it back up before you restore!

Just remember you will lose all your jailbroken apps/app data when you restore and the jailbreak again. You can back up some app data with cydia but that is some times buggy and not everything works afterwords. I usually do not upgrade unless their is a major OS update.

Ok, I have a question: I previously had jailbroken 4.2.1, but now i'm trying to unjailbreak it to 4.3.2. Itunes won't let me just restore it with keeping the firmware, I have to restore+update. Then, when I try, it says the ipod isn't eligible for the update. Help please!

Second generation devices can't be updated past 4.2.1.

Mine is a 3rd generation touch with 32 gb, so Im pretty sure it can. Let me rephrase my question: Is there a way to restore it without updating the software?

Not unless you saved your shsh blobs. Basically unless you saved your shsh blobs using either tinyumbrella http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/ or backed it up using cydia there is no way for you to restore to anything but the latest ios version. Also you can not back up any blobs that apple is not signing anymore which means you can only back it up for 4.3.2 right now they stopped signing the blob for 4.3.1 the day after 4.3.2 came out. So basically you are out of luck if you have already updated to 4.3.2 and want to restore to 4.2.1. Anyways, to make sure you are able to restore in the future please download tinyumbrella and back up your shsh blobs.
