Flick NBA Basketball Teaser Trailer & Launch Date

The first officially licensed NBA game for the iPhone & iPod Touch coming your way from Freeverse!
Brian Akaka, CEO and Founder of Appular just sent over a teaser for the latest game from Freeverse, Flick NBA Basketball. This is the third game in the Flick series (Bowling and Fishing with Baseball coming in the near future). The trailer doesn’t show much besides the court, with especially stunning reflection, but it’s enough to peak our interest so I dug a little deeper.

This is the first licensed NBA game to hit the iPhone & iPod Touch and features all-stars such as Shaq, Kobe, Kevin Garnett, LeBron, Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade and more. This is a game that features ultra-realistic 3D models of NBA superstars where you play different challenges like 3 point shootout, HORSE, and more in a similar fashion to the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Flick NBA Basketball will launch during the NBA Playoffs (late April or May). As we get more info, videos, and screenshots we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Woot. Developer active on the forums cha-ching. Thanks for your response, can't wait for this game. Even though I don't really like basketball, I love the quality Freeverse delivers on the iPhone. This game (by the looks of the court) looks amazing!

Not really, If you read the app info it was stated that this wasnt a full on basketball title, just an all-star shootout game. Looks like another thing that could be awesome turned into something bad (a la MGST)

I think this is just another shooting game. Check out Hoop Jones too. I was planning on doing a full 3D 3 on 3 basketball game but since EA announced they are bringing NBA Live I may cancel my attempt. Might be a while before we have a real basketball game to play on the iphone.

We'll be posting more official content once the NBA approves it.

The video is from the Simulator (but re-configured to capture video, the UI removed and such).

EA holds the rights to the NBA basketball type game, so this is a a sort of Shooting/Skills type game. Think of it as a counterpart to Live when that shows up.

If this game is anything like the basketball games already on the appstore I probally won't get it. But if its more than just a shooting game than I can definately see myself buying it. I'm kind of hoping it will be like Gamelofts Real Soccer.

It is kinda Hard to compete with Hoop Jones since its free. And if you spend time hanging in bars (not that I do this.....ahem).....then you will already like Hoop Jones. So to make something that will blow it away will be hard! But then again.......Im a sucker for new games with great graphics so we will see!

I'm really wondering how EA is going to pull off NBA Live. I would think that the iPhone screen is a little small for a full court basketball game. The controls are also another thing I'm wondering about.

Flick NBA Basketball, imo, seems to be on the right track and the choice of making it a half court is a good idea for their business and cash flow. Competing against EA is, unfortunately, not a good idea since they're the "top dog" in the gaming sector. Even though this game might compete with those other basketball apps, I think the good reputation associated with Freeverse will have this game acquire a considerable amount of sales.

I don't agree with you. Freevers made a good decision by making it this type of game. If they had made a full court basketball game, it would have competed with the big name company EA in their upcoming NBA game. Freeverse is a small company compared to EA and I don't think they want to compete. In the long run, this game won't be bogged down by EA's NBA game.

BIA: the graphics aren't that great. the only thing that's good about it is the gameplay.
7 Days of Apocalypse: that doesn't even count. It's a survival shooter with no depth and the zombies look absolutely horrible.
Iron Sight: graphics are good, but you can actually see the individual pixels.
Rolando: those aren't even graphics. They're like drawn pictures moving on your screen. It's not even 3D.
Assassin's Creed: graphics look alright but again, compare them and you'll see Assassin's Creed looks worse.
2XL Supercross: that's probably the only game out right now that competes with this graphics-wise.

Well, that's just my two cents. Happy with every decision that Freeverse made and really happy with the graphics, the look of the gamplay, etc.

Well it does come out during the NBA playoffs or something like that which started yesterday and goes until June. I'm guessing either late this month or early May :)

Rolando may be 2d, but its "graphics" are better than a lot of the 3d games listed in this thread. It's more viscerally appealing, better framerate, better design... tech-wise, it's not pushing the limit as much, but that's not necessary to have "good graphics".

I've never heard of a flack baseball. Where did you hear about this new, upcoming game? There's enough baseball games in the App Store already but this one may be another gem :)

Ok but seriously, I don't think they'll be releasing Flick Baseball first. Even though it was announced first, Flick NBA Basketball and Top Gun were the games that were shown off at the GDC (I think?). We haven't heard any news about Flick Baseball for a long time, and I think they would like to release this one first just for timing purposes I guess?
