A few years ago, Ravensburger, the publisher of the real boardgame, released a very good NDS version with additional maps and a very good KI. Hopefully this version will be as good.

Uh, silly question here possibly, but is this licensed or is it a blatant ripoff?
I have to agree about the NDS game, which is great.

I doubt its licensed. Most probably a ripoff only. Just guessing though.

Then I wonder when/if Ravensburger will pull this one; they're usually quite picky with their boardgame adaptions - fortunately; I'm looking forward to the Puerto Rico release :)

Hmm... the developer is based in India and there is a new (2011) Indian printed version of Scotland Yard listed on BGG... Funskool (India) Edition... presumably licensed from Ravensburger.... connection?
If you do dive in and 'save' it before it's pulled Dukester please let us know if we should follow your fine example.
Yes duke, do not for us :D
Hey Guys,
Ravensburger has confirmed this is a non-approved release of 'Scotland Yard' which infringes on their copyrights.

Is there any reliable information on this, one way or the other? Lots of press release listings out there calling it "official", and it's now been up for a week, but it does seem odd that a game like Scotland Yard isn't coming from one of the better-known board game publishers. Would love to get this, but not so keen if it's not official and therefore may not have the support that the already-vested Ravensburger might provide to one of their better-known titles.
I also read an iTunes review or two saying that the single-player AI is weak, that there may be WiFi issues, and that there are problems with the detective token not showing its moves.
Anyone have any experience with this company? It looks like they have a lot of generic apps, so someone here might know what kind of quality this could have. It looks decent enough in the screenshots, but we all know how misleading stills can be.
Your source? A link?

I was writing a review for this game, for Touch Arcade, but received an email directly from Ravensburger confirming that 'Scotland Yard for iPad' is unofficial and infringes on their copyright.

Regardless of its pedigree, the game is a mess, beginning with the impenetrable interface. I've already deleted it.

Thanks Red, Dukester. Disappointing, but not surprising.
Totally agree...überballsy. In fact, I'll see your ballsy and raise you a stupid...why put time and money into developing a copyright-infringing app of such a recognisable game in such a blatant way? They've intentionally implied that it's an official port with the identical name and maps (not to mention the word official in the apparent press release) without grasping the concept of how easily they'd be spotted by Ravensburger.
Maybe the positive side effect will be Ravensburger realising the there are lots of people who would easily snap up a legitimate port. Fingers crossed!
