I'm currently thinking about developing a game with retro style RPG graphics like these seen below: (Not sure image is working, so here's a link) http://www.squidi.net/pixel/char.default.php I don't intend to use these particular ones due to licensing, but am curious to get some player feedback on the style. I really like this retro RPG/pixel look, but am curious if it would deter people from buying it for being too 'ugly'. Thoughts?
Personally, I love retro sprites and games that manage to utilize a classic look well. However I know there are many instances of people not buying or blasting NES looking or sprite styled games because the "graphics sux" and what not. Retro Game Challenge for the NDS and Half-Minute Hero for the PSP are two good examples. There are definitely people that can appreciate them, but there are many others who don't sadly.
