Maybe you're a font nerd. Maybe you're a SHMUP nerd. Maybe you just love Alien, or awesome games, or are a particularly hip person. If you just nodded sagely, you'll love Vetica! First, a trailer: Finally, an elevator pitch: Your ship is the A from Helvetica and the enemies, bullets, etc. are composed from the other letters, numbers and punctuation. There are 13 levels (plus a secret, if you can find it) with three difficulties. 12 different weapons and various other powerups. plus+ integration An 80s vibe without being retro, per se. One of my beta testers said it kept him on the toilet for an hour. Vetica's in review now and will hopefully be available shortly!
This looks pretty interesting. I'm a designer, and I love shmups, so this is right up my alley. "In letterspace, no one can hear you kern"?
The trailer looks good, although I stopped watching as I didn't want to spoil the game. Half the fun would be the surprise of seeing how the fonts are used creatively. Dev - Are you planning an iPad version? Look forward to seeing some opinions of the game-play here...
Almost definitely not a separate HD. I'm torn on Universal; here's why: Since this game's based on the International Typographic Style, everything is designed according to a grid system, and that grid uses iPhone proportions. a)having to letterbox it and give you high res versions of the sprites at iPad size. Basically, the same thing as 2x mode, but looking a little nicer. or... b)making all brand new levels for the iPad. I'm having a hard time convincing myself that this is worth development time over GameCenter, extra game modes, etc. Still, if someone can show me some vertical shooters that work well as Universal, I'd definitely have a look at them.
