Square Enix has just founded a new subsidiary focused on smartphone app development called Hippos Lab. Source: 1, 2 It looks like they're seriously stepping up their game (literally) in developing new products for iOS and probably Android too. Speculations? My first guess would be more iOS ports from NDS, like FFIV. But it would be great if they made some more original content based on their franchises.
I hope this means they'll port some of the lesser known SquareEnix games, like Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore, and Seiken Densetsu 3...
Smart move by S/E! They realised that they can make quite a buck with smartphone games and founded a new studio, another will follow in Canada, if I read that correctly. A big part of the gaming future lies in todays advanced phones.
I'm hoping they bring the Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light. It's a much more recent DS game, so I hope they're prepared to port it. And in my opinion, has a wonderful visual style with the ever-rolling landscape.
