    Information - About Outer Empires
Outer Empires is a space based massively multi-player online game created for both the iPhone/iPod Touch and desktop browsers.

Every player will be able to create an online persona in a persistent galaxy; from that point on they can choose from a number of different careers to progress through the game. The game is set up in a sandbox style, to allow players to choose how their character develops.

Players will have a variety of options, including:
    • Fly missions (transport, fighter, freight, exploration, bounty) to earn credits and experience.
    • Set up colonies (Mining, Food Production, Manufacture, Development/Research).
    • Run/join factions (guilds) within the game.
    • Take control of and fight for systems (either themselves or as part of a faction).
    • Buy/Mod/Build/Sell ships using a number of variable items that can be created from the manufacture plants players set up.
    • Trade with other players and the system.

Thanks very much indeed! - I feel a wee bit silly now, but I reckon it'll wear off. - Video embedded in the first post now.

No problem, everyone has a problem with it including me.

As for the game, what is the incentive for earning gold and setting up these mining colonies, etc.?

A difficult question to answer - it's really dependent on what you want to do in game.

For instance if you want to be someone who runs colonies and provides some sort of specialised resource you can be... if you're someone who wants to be a manufacturing mogul (once again at a colony) using other peoples resources (that they've mined) you can... or you could be a researcher looking to invent new types of ship modification. You could just be someone who wants to fight and help protect your faction instead of having your own colonies... or you could be someone who acts as a pirate with some friends in an outer system. You could even try to gain political influence through the government and become one of the eight player elected government officials...

We've tried not to tell people what they should do, there are loads of things you *can* do... and trying them all out is good fun. As you can see, it's a sandbox game where we give you the tools and you can choose how you want to play.

Apologies, I didn't see this message before!

I hope we don't disappoint you - if anything, I think you'll enjoy the game player... we've tried to make the early game a bit more interesting than EvE's early game as well :)

Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to get into an Eve/outer empires contest. However high the qualities of Outer empires might be, I am not expecting it to be as rich or deep as Eve, just because one of the game has still to be launched when the other is approaching 6 years of age with constant updates. My remark was more a praise than a threat lol !

I will try OE with an open mind because it really seems that you guys are doing an awesome job. If this is half as good as it looks, I'll support the game from launch, hoping it'll improve over time.

I have a really good feeling about this !

PS: if you need a beta tester... :)

Hah, I didn't really take it as such... but we really do feel proud of Outer Empires so far :)

We've tried to make it as expansive and all encompassing as we could in the time we've had to develop it... but I think the areas we've concentrated on has paid off.

Do sign up for the beta testing on the Outer Empires site, we're constantly adding new people to the testing group.
