I saw the ishoot article, the developer claiming to make over 900000. I was about to submit my game and wondered how much do you make?
Dont bother Devs. This guy is no developer and I seriously doubt if he has any intention of becoming one anytime soon. The only aim in his life seems to be creating maximum number of threads with polls and he doesnt really care about the poll results either. Please ignore him. Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this annoying member. He`s some old banned member who doesnt have anything else to do but to create a nuisance here at TA.
I think its 35% to the government at the highest bracket - at least right now. So if you make a cool million, you really just made $650k. At least we don't live in Norway! I think its 50% there!
Actually the regular income-tax here is about 35% up 'til a certain amount. (About $80K with todays rates). For any income about this limit you will have to pay an additional tax of 9% when you reach something like $125K you will have to pay an additional 12% on any amount above this. So it maxes out at 45% I think, but at least we have some decent public services.
BTW, so do I... I also have Torque, Visual Studio, Dark Basic, Unreal 2 & 3, BlitzMax and half a million other languages/engines. It's not the engine that makes the game... YOU do! Even though anyone striving to do this for a living should be considering how much they can make, it's really about breaking even so you can continue to do it. Even medium-sized professional development houses barely break even on 90% of the games made. It's not really about edge-cases, where somebody had the stars align and they "got rich". It's about making the game you want people to play and hoping that you can do the next one... (and the next one... and the next one...)
Total revenue with all of my apps combined, before taxes and expenses, since July 2008 is $146,327 (includes estimate for Oct 09). Ethan
Watch out, the peons may try to take us over, with their BMWs and Mercedes. Me, I drive a jet. On the highway.
A Jet? Hah. I laugh at your feeble excuses for transportation. I fly a luxury cruiseliner through the stratosphere.
