10tons Ltd. will start the year 2013 with a bang! Or, a slam! A Grand Slam! Tennis in the Face will be released in late January. The game is a slapstick flavored vengeance story starring a fallen tennis star Pete Pagassi, who has sworn to take down the evil energy drink giant Explodz Inc. Here's a few teaser images about the storyline, stay tuned for gameplay screenshots and the launch trailer. Oh, and don't forget to check out www.explodz.com and www.tennisintheface.com P.S. How do you like the game title? We're not native English speakers, and we totally get 'Tennis in the Face' is all kinds of wrong, but in the end we couldn't find it in ourselves to call it anything else
Haha, that's an awesome title. It'll definitely get you some attention. Btw, the link to your website in missing an 'h'. Here's the link if anyone is interested: www.Tennisintheface.com
Fixed the link. We've also submitted the final build yesterday so at the moment we're on track for the Jan 17th release.
There's an ex-tennis pro, a racket and tennis balls but the similarities with actual tennis pretty much end there.
Hi guys! We're pushing the release date to Jan 24th because an important partner thought it would be a good idea. As for the screenshots, you can find three screenshots from here: www.tennisintheface.com
The similarities to Angry Birds are mostly superficial. Yes, the game looks in some ways like Angry Birds, but we feel the gameplay is very different. There is a physics model and some of the level structures break, but that's basically it. Tennis in the Face is gameplay-wise all about bouncing the ball from the level stuctures and edges. The balls travel fast and the number of bounces is unlimited (flight time is limited though), so what you're doing is figuring out shots that will take out the most enemies and misses the various items that will destroy the ball. Puzzle elements start from nonexistent but admittedly intensify towards the end of the game, but we really tried to make the game such that the label "physics based puzzle" wouldn't be very accurate We're hoping the trailer we're working on will illustrate the essence of the game better. And the essence is ragdoll characters getting hit by a tennis ball in the face and other parts, as well as getting blasted around by explosions and other non-trivial impacts
Update: The original planned release date of January 17th was indeed pushed back a week to January 24th. This is purely good news though, as the delay will make the launch considerably more effective. In the last few days we've been sending out a whole lot of promo codes, and we're eagerly waiting how the game will be received by the media! (though player reception is even more important and interesting, of course) We're also finetuning our launch trailer, and we think it'll be pretty sweet!
Well, that's one of the games we used as an inspiration for Tennis in the Face! One other game worth mentioning is Hambo, but influences from that are more minor. We think that Stupid Zombies fans will probably like Tennis in the Face but on the other hand after the basic "bounce a projectile and knock out the enemies" mechanic there are a lot of differences too. Compared to these two, Tennis in the Face probably focuses more on the hilarious action provided by rag dolls flying everywhere and countless interesting chain reactions that will occur. You can for example serve a tennis ball in the face and then watch the enemy tumble through several sheets of glass and finally land on a case of higly volatile energy drink Explodz which again sends other stuff flying. We've also spent a lot of time time creating over a hundred truly interesting levels with unique "personalities" and tricks. After you've simply completed a level, you can also try to earn a crown from each level, which is a true challenge. The trailer will probably describe the action better than any words. We'll be releasing the trailer the moment the game goes live in less than three days.
