My iTouch is in recovery mode and I am on vacation. Is there a way to take it out of recovery mode?

Methinks you really don't need to bump it after 8 minutes and then 12 more.
    Basically, what sk8terdude50 said.

You may have to restore it if it comes down to that. Most likely just sync it or do a 2 button restart, sometimes that works.

Have you jailbroken it recently? Is it a newer iPod Touch?

If so, you have what is called a tethered jailbreak. This means that if the battery runs out, or you turn the device off, you need to hook it up to a computer to boot it back up.

If you have a jailbroken iPod touch 3G then you're scrooged, but according to your profile you have an iPod touch 2G,

I suggest holding down the power and hold button for either 30 seconds or until the apple logo shows up.

It's when your iPod goes all spastic, and requires you to plug it into your computer to restore it.

It usually happens when you attempt to jailbreak your iPod touch or iPhone.

It always happens, it's part of the procedure.
