My app http://bit.ly/1lmUbHr launched on the same day as Jelly (created by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone) and it was sickening to see that it got such viral and excessive press, who along with Apple, featured the app everywhere they could.

It achieved 100,000 downloads within days, broke into the top 50 of the US charts, yet a month on it has disappeared from the overall charts worldwide and remains apparent in the Social networking charts due its strong downloads in it's early days.

With this in mind, I am actually completely behind the success of flappybird. A game which actually made it without relying on the fame of a well-known co-founder.

I am the last person that WANTS to see an app flop for a developer. Having released a couple that have gone on to struggle and die, it's a depressing state of affairs. Having said that, I think this news story shows that if the concept doesn't work, political promotion isn't going to save it. And in that way it is a partial victory for us indie developers who do not have the name and contacts to launch an app as effectively.

Us guys do work hard, in a vacuum or not, to produce an app that will make it, and it wasn't fair to see Apple, Mashable, Techcrunch, Gizmodo, Forbes and so many other major blogs get behind it when the concept wasn't as strong as half the stuff you or I produce.
