Fat Penguin! - Launching February 25th, 2016 (Promo Codes Below)
Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to release my 2nd game for iOS (My first was Krashlander - Ski, Jump, Crash!) I decided this time to try something a bit more easy to pick-up and get going. It's called Fat Penguin! Here's the pitch...

YOU ARE FAT! Too fat to swim... and you're a penguin. Stay on the iceberg as long as you can.

Fat Penguin! is a free pick-up and play game with a simple but unique game mechanic. You are a fat penguin stuck on an iceberg in some desolate part of the ocean.

Things start off calm, but a storm roles in quickly, the waves get crazy, and things get dicey.

Last as long as you can and see how your longest ride compares to others on Game Center.

    Fat Penguin! Dev Tidbit

Fat Penguin! Developer Tidbit (For those interested):

Fat Penguin! is actually a remake of a game I made a long time ago for another, now extinct, platform (Silverlight).

That game was called Tire Storm (terrible name! I know.)

Here is what that game looked like:

    Fat Penguin! Dev Notes 2

Hey, all. Here some more developer notes about Fat Penguin for those interested in that kind of thing.

Fat Penguin wasn't suppose to be my next game.

After releasing my first game, Krashlander, my plan was to begin work on re-developing a cliff diving game I made a long time ago called Diver. Diver was build using Silverlight which is now a defunct technology.

    Old Diver Trailer:

Well, my wife had been wanting me to update Tire Storm (see previous post) for a while so I decided to compromise and use Tire Storm to work through the development of the water system I'd need for the diving game.

My thought was I'd kill three birds with one stone: Get a new, more casual game out, create a nice physics water-system for diver, and make my wife happy!

So, that's what I did and Fat Penguin! is the result. Please give it a try once it's released on Feb 25th.

FYI, now that Fat Penguin! dev is complete I'm spending all my spare time working on the new diving game... so stay tuned for that as well.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    Fat Penguin Dev Notes 3

How long did it take to develop Fat Penguin?

I started officially working on Fat Penguin, March of last year 2015. At first glance it might seem crazy that such a simple looking game could take that long.

Thing is, I'm what you might call a part-time indie game developer. I dedicate roughly 10 to 12 hours a week to game dev and the rest goes to my real job (software developer... not games) and my family.

So if you do a little math and figure out how long the game would have taken if I had been working on it the standard 40 hrs a week, it would have taken about 3 months.

Fat Penguin! will start rolling out to the AppStore in less than 24 hrs. It's a quick fun game. Give it a go once it hits the store!
