    Hey everyone,

There is a game called Happy Theme Park that has been around for only a couple of weeks. Nothing out of the ordinary with reviews, but they somehow have over 30,000 ratings. They also seem to be maintaining a #1-#2 spot for quite a while now.

From the looks of the chart attached... what do you all make of this?

    thanks!

They're using FAAD so nothing strange about the chart position. Maybe FAAD encourage reviews more strongly these days. At least it's a real, working game.

its a free game that has huge amounts of downloads and they are constantly charting very high across alot of countries so they probably have alot more than 1m+ downloads so faar and therefore 30k of reviews is not much..

combine this with some tactics to "urge" the player to review in exchange for probably vortual currency the game uses.. i can see that a small percentage actualy write a review..

people should understand that the paid market is tiny compared to the volume of the free downloads..

    quoted for truth.

we put our app for free last year and got about 14k DLs a year ago and hit #63 in All Free. Tried again a year later and didn't even chart (same amount of DLs)

There's wayyyy more phones out there now and that much more people DLing apps. I shudder to consider what #1 All Free is getting!

I think going free with FAAD got "Ground Effect" about 500k downloads & a position of around 7 in all games - that was more than a year ago. So who knows how many downloads you'd need to get to the that rank now.

It's no longer in their description, but Happy Theme Park also used 'Monster Free Apps' for their promotion. So they had users downloading from two different user bases.

Once they reached almost the top position, the app was (is) apparently good enough that people keep using it and recommending it.
