OK I loved Soul Caliber on my DC (I still own and play both to this day) and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this. Its obviously heavily inspired by it (I hate the term clone as its not fair), but anyway who cares when its simply a very good game. Another success story of Gameloft's formula! And possibly the 1st 3d arcade fighter on the store?

The graphics are top notch (but then what Gameloft game isn't?) and the controls work very well. I like the analogue stick/swipe controls better, seems more natural for the platform and more fun too. There seems to be pretty decent depth to the combat system with combos, and special magic attacks that you earn as you do well in a fight. These can be collected up to stage 3, all of which come with some slick animations and sfx. Also, more difficult opponents will block these attacks too, so good timing/strategy is a must for pulling them off.

I've only played as 1 character so far, Danling. I assume others have different animations/moves? I played through the story mode with her on easy and completed reasonably easily, hopefully normal and hard offer more challenge. There are achievements that you unlock throughout and I also unlocked a new costume for her by completing story mode (she had 2 by default). Seems to be characters to unlock too, hopefully like in SC where you had to complete the story with a certain number of characters.

Gameloft live is included too, but i'm struggling to log on after setting up an account. I assume that it will have achievments and high scores or something?

My only gripes so far are the terrible voice acting during the intro sequence to fights and the story. At least you can skip them though.
