    Hey everyone!

Some friends / co-workers and I have been working on a game since early June, called Heroes Fally. It's getting close to done and we'd like to get some eyes on our work so far for a little feedback. I'm still working on a video, so it's just screenshots for now.

The game features a large roster of characters that can be unlocked during game play at random, or purchased individually.
We're not posting up all the characters as of yet, but will be trying to reveal one a week for the next few months. I can show Hot Dog Man, seen here in the select screen (since he was shown today). Over to the right of that image is the scene each hero starts in, perched at the edge of a building, overlooking a city.

    HF_Character Select Screen.jpg HF_Start Screen.jpg

Each character will have a stats card attached to it, with some details and humorous back story, like so:

    cards_hot_dog_man_front.jpg cards_hot_dog_man_back.png

The player taps to launch their chosen hero into the air, from the rooftop. The goal is to avoid hazards, collect medals and make it to a landing on the next rooftop down, thus completing a level and earning further medals.

    HF_Falling.jpg HF_Landing Success.jpg

Hitting a hazard results in splatting on the rooftop below. Each hero has a "Super" which makes them invincible for a short time when activated. The effects for each super are unique for each character.

    HF_Death-Continue.jpg HF_Super.jpg

Our goal has been to design something that pokes fun at everything, capitalizes on puns and references to popular culture and is in general just addictively fun to play. Thanks for looking! I'm be working at putting some video together so you can see things in motion and hear the soundtrack. (It really helps to complete the experience.)

I'm disappointed Hot Dog Man's real name isn't "Oscar M. Weiner"

That's totally fair, Misguided. We thought about going with the better known Oscar but decided his brother, Herbert, just doesn't get enough love. One person can't always be top dog, you know?

Each character builds up energy in their Super meter during gameplay, by avoiding hazards, collecting medals and sticking their landing on a rooftop. Though each character's Super makes them invincible, the effect generated when activated is unique to each character. Here's Hot Dog Man's effects!

Happy Friday everyone. The end of the week is when a few of us on the team have time to whip up new artwork and do character reveals for our game. Here's a recent banner we had a lot of fun making, for our social media sites.

We're toying with the idea of doing a live character concept session on Twitch, probably over a mid-week lunch hour. Would anyone be interested in joining us for that type of virtual hang out? We can answer questions and draw funny ideas as we chat. Let us know!

Happy Friday! Over on our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/heroesfally/ ), our team does a weekly character reveal. Our hope is to promote excitement about the game while we move closer to a release date. This week's character is called Thunder Thighs and I thought I'd share her stat card on the forum here for you to see.

    cards_thunder_thighs_front.jpg cards_thunder_thighs_back.png

The stat cards were a late addition to our game, but one I've personally had a lot of fun creating. I hope you enjoy!

I'll update the post soon with a 360 turn of the character (our character modeler is sick this weekend so we're chugging a little slowly in that department). Stay tuned!

EDIT: Hey everyone, I'm just popping on to add that 360 turn of our character model!

Hey everyone! We're back with another character stat card this week. Who knows how many people are actually checking game forums amidst Black Friday shopping and Thanksgiving family visits, BUT we figured we'd stay in the habit. This week's character is Con-Spiracy and the character banner / card art is below!

Hey everyone! I hope that you all ate your fill this weekend and successfully avoided your crazier relatives (looking at you, Uncle Carl!) I'm making weekend post #2 - showing some supplementary materials for this week's revealed character: Con-Spiracy.

First up we have a quick Screenshot Saturday post from our animator, Hector Reyes:

    HF_Con-Spiracy_Animation.JPG

Hector does all his animation for Fally in 3Ds Max. He likes the animation suite in Maya but using biped, in Max, was a better fit for our production pipeline.

Next up is the original concept art:

    HF_Con-Spiracy_Concept Art.jpg

My name is Adam Cook, and I do most of the 2D work on the game. I also drive most of our social media presence, so if you ever have questions about the game or our posts, I'm probably the one you'll hear from.

    Here's a 360 model view of Con-Spiracy:

Robert Fink is our 3D character artist on Fally. He turns my (really) rough sketches into gold!

Last up for this week, we have a look at Con-Spiracy's Super ability FX:

Like many on our team, Brandon Leach is a jack of all trades, but he's responsible for all of the game's FX work. His work always makes me laugh and has been a hit when people play test the game.

This week, I'm going to try and make a mid-week post with some further info about our five person team. I realized today we never really made a proper introduction when I started posting on TouchArcade. Stay tuned for that. In the meantime, thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Here's hoping you're all doing well as it gets colder (for some) and significantly more "jolly" outside. If you're a fan of form fitting latex, but also perhaps big, comfy sweaters, this week's revealed character might be up your alley. Please say hello to Cat lady!

We continue our weekly weekend updates with supplemental material for Cat Lady! We just like to give a peek into the character's creation process on Screenshot Saturday.

First up, here's the character's original concept art:

    HF_Cat Lady_Concept Art.jpg

These are always fairly rough, not because I usually work this way, but because our character modeler Robert Fink does such a good job taking quick sketches to final. It just makes the whole process faster to keep things simple.

Speaking of Robert's work, here's a 360 degree view of the character's model:

Next up, a quick look at the screen of our animation expert, Hector Reyes, while he creates the idle animation for Cat Lady in 3Ds Max:

Last but not least, and always a favorite of mine to share each week, here's a look at Cat Lady's Super ability FX - courtesy of our team effects artist Brandon Leach:

Not pictured each week is our constantly unsung programing hero, Julius Jockusch. Julius is always hard at work constructing the frame and function that all this art hangs on. Without him we would just have a bunch of pictures.

As always, thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

Our Heroes Fally team is made up of five people: Julius Jockusch, Brandon Leach, Hector Reyes, Robert Fink and me, Adam Cook. All five of us are employees of SuperGenius Studio, a video game art studio in Oregon City, OR. Our team created Heroes Fally using personal time and SuperGenius is now publishing the game next year as its first solo title. Since we didn’t introduce ourselves earlier, here’s a bit about each of us to fill you in.

    Adam Cook.jpg

    Adam Cook | 2D, Marketing
I worked as a freelance illustrator for about 8 years, making art for Wizards of the Coast, LucasArts, Disney, Sony and a few other companies. Eventually I worked my way over to doing concept art and pre-vis for video games. I landed at SuperGenius Studio as a contractor back in late 2009 and was hired on as a full-time art director in 2011.

I do most of the 2D work on Heroes Fally, including creating UI elements, character concepts and the promotional art we post each week. Much of the core work for Fally is finished so my time is now spent coming up with jokes for the character stat cards and on marketing through social media.

If you’d like to see the art I create outside the game, you can check it out here:
    http://dangercook.deviantart.com/gallery

    Brandon Leach.jpg

    Brandon Leach | FX, Generalist
Brandon started his career as a freelance illustrator right out of college. His first big gig was creating art for a casino game company. In his off-time he contracted as an illustrator for other clients. Eventually he moved on to exclusively work freelance, creating fantasy illustrations and concept art for companies like Wizards of the Coast, Sony, Disney and more. Brandon came to work at SuperGenius as a 2D art director (and 3D generalist) in 2014.

Brandon created a lot of the initial explorations, for several of the different expertises, to help jumpstart the creation of Heroes Fally. (He’d say he did all the “good stuff” that nobody will ever see.) He had never created particle FX before working on the game. With some initial hand-holding from our programmer and lots of google searches, he taught himself the ropes of creating FX in Unity and created all of the effects you’ll see in our game.

If you want to check out Brandon’s art outside the game, you can see it here:
    http://b33nine.com

Brandon is also an aspiring toy maker (utilizing 3d printers) and has his own line of toys: BroBots! If you want to check out the awesome (and you do, trust me), you can see it here:
    https://www.instagram.com/brobots_toys

    Robert Fink.jpg

Robert Fink | 3D Character and Environment Artist, Generalist
Robert has spent thousands of hours flexing his muscles under raging waterfalls, contemplating the third dimension and the shapes which form from mind to matter. In his mind, there is still much to learn. He continues his eternal journey, seeking skills to help him traverse this frontier we call “life.” The companions he has met along the way guide him when he is lost. Together, they blaze the trail to what we all truly seek: a super fun video game that can be played on a mobile phones while on the can. Robert is a 3D art director at SuperGenius.

Robert creates all the 3D character models and much of the 3D environment assets for Heroes Fally. The team looks forward to seeing each model revealed just to see the awesome transformation from sketch to finished model.

If you’d like to check out some of Robert’s non-Fally work, you can click here:
    https://www.artstation.com/artist/finklematter

    Hector Reyes.jpg

Hector Reyes | Animator, 3D Generalist
Hector is a funky pop artist in Portland Oregon and has worked at SuperGenius as a 3D art director since just after the company’s inception.

Hector creates all the animation for Heroes Fally. He also assists as needed with work on 3D assets for the game. If you laugh when you see our videos of the heroes falling each week, it’s got much to do with his work.

    Julius Jockusch.jpg

Julius Jockusch | Dev, Makes Everything Work
Julius went to college to learn visual effects for the film industry and worked for years making pretty pictures move around the screen. After a time, he went to Las Vegas and fell in love with a digital interactive wall that made pretty pictures follow him around. He had to know how it worked and began his journey to learn programing. With the help of YouTube, many many tutorial websites, and a wonderful group of developers on several forums he learned to make fun HTML and Javascript interactive websites. Then, he found Unity.

Julius created his first App Store project using Playmaker and node based programing. At the time, Playmaker was very limited. Julius had to make his own nodes to get the results he wanted, which led him to learn C#. Since then he’s stayed true to the path of the game developer, learning the finer points of the C# language, stumbling through vector math and getting his feet wet in C++. This final accomplishment led him to join SuperGenius, where he makes pretty pictures that anyone can control!

Julius leads all the development work on Heroes Fally. He started from a prototype, featuring one block jumping off of another block and falling forever. Flash forward half a year of development and some slick graphics later and we have the game you see today. Each week Julius tackles the unique task of figuring out how to make our feature list come to life in the code. He then asks the rest of us to make it pretty.
