Is this normal battery life?

I'm running only music and WIFI, and it deletes 20+% every hour. So I only have 4-5 hours of battery life altogether.

I have Generation 3, and I got it in May. I use it every day and charge it everyday -- sometimes twice a day.

My ipod is jailbroken and I have a lot of stuff added like Winterboard, 5 Coloumn, and other passive stuff that work in the background. I also have battery life indicator enabled. Will all these miniscule background stuff deplete the life faster even if I'm actively using it?

Also. Should I upgrade to 4.1 and get a clean restore? Will that whipe out my music, or just my apps? Also, i heard that 4.1 depletes the battery even more?

    Any help is appreciated :)

I'm running 4.1 and I've had battery issues since 4.0. Device is a few months old. Yes, this is NORMAL. Wi-Fi is the biggest drain. I've noticed that my battery drains a lot slower with Wi-Fi off, even when locked. Still sucks, though.

Every charge cycle you do depletes the total battery a little so it could be that.

Wi-fi is DEFINITELY a battery drainer, but I can for sure go about 10 hours with Wi-Fi connected (while the iPod is locked). I'm not sure about Wi-Fi while you are using the internet, but I've browsed the internet for an hour at the most and it only went down to 60-70%, so I'd assume I can probably get about 3 hours of internet time.

4.1 does deplete even faster than 4! It's all multitasking and Game Center, imo! I used to have multitasking disabled when I was jailbroken, and it lasted WAY longer!

I had multitasking disabled, too. I did not notice any improvements with battery life. :(

I haven't seen this mentioned before, but when I'm not using my ipod I always have it in airplane mode. A little bit of a hassle but it saves my battery life a lot. Hope this helps.

When Apple replaced my iPod with a "new one" (I know it's a refurb, they lied), it had 3.x installed on it. I kinda wish I didn't "upgrade". But, then again, there were games waiting for me that I assume needed 4.x. :(

It's very normal. If I have wifi/3G on and I'm playing a game that is graphically strong, I'll get 5 and a half hours max.

My ipod touch 3 cannot even last an hour on a single charge if I'm using it to play games. It might last 40 minutes, tops. Words cannot even describe the pathetic level of this epic fail. I paid $299 for this? Seriously? Really? Seriously?! What an unmitigated joke. Luckily, I have an iPhone 4 now, which has, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone 4 has a battery that is 5 times greater than that of the ipod touch 3. I feel like I got royally ripped off. I really do. Apple should be ashamed of themselves.

    Thanks. I know.

I think Apple did this on purpose. So everyone that "upgrades", sees that their device now sucks and goes to buy a new one. I bet you a lot of people did.

I always put mine in airplane mode. It lasts several days. I use it only for music and games anyway.

  19. But each charge cycle decreases the battery - sounds like yours lasted 2 years?
