    Hello all!

I am a longtime lurker here, but our first iPhone game is nearing completion so i thought i would put it out there:

Snowferno - Do you have a snowball's chance?

Here is a gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScS2pIFfyTU

and the website has screenshots and samples from the custom soundtrack (as well as the leaderboards(just the betas for now) and a dev blog): http://www.snowferno.com

It is a rolling ball puzzle game in full 3d. You use the accelerometer to turn and onscreen controls to control speed and the camera position. Your goal is to successfully roll through hell, which in this case is 20 levels of puzzles. The puzzles involve all sorts of switches, boxes, gears, platforms, and since you are a snowball, you can also use various items to get bigger (snow) and smaller (fire) to help you solve the puzzles.

Anyhow, we are hoping to finish up the final tweaks to the website and the game code this week and submit it.

I wanted to give you guys an early peek and see what anyone thought!

    Cheers!
    -Ben

A snowball?! Through the center of the earth?! Pretty cool concept, and great-looking gameplay (from the looks of the video). The variety in level design really caught my eye. I'll be sure to check this one out when it arrives in the app store! :D

    Thanks Manathilian!

As I mentioned, it is our first game (the three of us that made it together all have backgrounds in film/tv and theatre (and software, of course), so this was a bit of a lateral move for us) so we are just hoping people enjoy it!

I am sure I will post here again when we get accepted!

    Cheers!

yeh, i love the video, and the idea of it... sort of like edge but full 3D. i just hate the snowball.

i wish you could be a figure... anything else but a snowball... cat, dog, crashbandicoot! ;)

it does look really good. i just say add a real avatar of some charater...
how about a cromagnon man? so it plays off the ice age theme..

Thanks all for your comments, everyone!

Renton, we are actually hoping to add some "avatar" selection in the 1.x release. (presuming more than 10 people buy it :) Like different types of snowballs, or maybe a ball of ice with a frozen cave man suspended inside it, or a baby mammoth frozen in the ice, that sort of thing. If people enjoy the game and the concept then we have lots of ideas for expansion :)

    Cheers!

Just jumping in to add to Ben's original post about Snowferno.

I'm one of the other two developers, and just wanted to mention about the soundtrack.

The whole game is a wink toward Dante's Inferno (get it? snowball in hell... :) ), so Mike Shaieb and I thought it would be fun to adapt a bunch of familiar classical music -- stuff from Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, those guys -- and we ended up with some cool electronic versions for the soundtrack.

In all, the game features 14 new tracks.

You can hear some samples of 4 of them here:

Yeah, the soundtrack those guys did is fantastic. If you heard the samples on the site that brent linked to, those are on the soundtrack, the song in the current video is also on the soundtrack.

You can also sample two other songs on two of the older teasers:

    beware of fire trailer:

the (now very old) original teaser trailer:

and of course, the most current trailer is on the site (it is the same one Masmo linked above) Cheers!
