What a bargain! LOL. Don't know. Maybe it's worth the $18, but never would have paid the almost console game price for it. Won't work for me anyway. Might want to check out the main thread on this. I seem to remember people saying that hell would freeze over to succumb to SE's insane price model on this one. Think of it more like a music game which you have to pay a lot for the base game, but find out that it only has a couple of songs and IAP for each additional song. bramblett05 Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 5,682 0 0 #7 bramblett05, Dec 12, 2012 Ummm maybe not then MeanTuna Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2012 752 0 16 Writer #8 MeanTuna, Dec 12, 2012 Is the locked conten any good? Greyskull Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2009 5,588 1 38 Photographer/Social Sciences adjunct/sweet sweet l Fort Lauderdale #10 Greyskull, Dec 12, 2012 That's what I'de like to know; unfortunatly navigating long threads is difficult on an iphone w/ a 3.5 inch screen, and for some reason youtube (for that matter, any) links from within the TA apps have been crashing to springboard lately. The desciption makes it confusing; it mentions demons' which you can pay to possess; whether they are tied to the music or not, good question. EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #11 EightRooks, Dec 12, 2012 To explain how the music works: the game progresses from song level against an single named, boss enemy, to intermission level against a series of minor enemies, to song level, to intermission level and so on. The IAPs are basically the tunes you get in song levels. You get to hear them once when you fight that boss, no payment required. If you buy the IAP then that boss 'possesses' the main character: her costume changes, her voiceovers change, her stats, possibly some other stuff, and the music in the background for the intermission levels also changes. That's the big one. Every intermission level, AFAIK (based on what I played), has exactly the same music depending on what possession you choose, or costume, or whatever you want to call it. If you don't buy any IAPs, the game is completely playable all the way through from start to finish, you'll still hear all the themed songs for the boss enemies, but every single intermission level between those bosses will only ever have one of two tunes (the heroine's basic theme music, or the music for the one possession they'll let you have for free). Hope that helps someone? It's an okay game, but not even close to being as much fun as Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents etc., IMO. $18 for everything is a lot saner, but I still wouldn't pay it. Some of the costumes are gorgeous, one or two of the songs are good, the gameplay's technically tight (it runs fine on an iTouch 4G) but it just didn't feel like it was that much fun. I beat it on Normal, spending nothing on IAPs, and got the regular "If you want to know more, beat it on Hard!" ending. So I just uninstalled it. Never been back. Greyskull Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2009 5,588 1 38 Photographer/Social Sciences adjunct/sweet sweet l Fort Lauderdale #12 Greyskull, Dec 12, 2012 So...is it a good rythm game for 99 cents, assuming I spend zero on iaps? I'm used to music games with additional tracks available for a charge...I don't buy them. After all, there are great ones (Tonesphere, Cytus, etc.) with tons of content included. awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #13 awp69, Dec 12, 2012 I'm not sure. But, frankly, even just to try it for $.99, the 730 MB download (I have no idea what the installed size is) is enough to discourage me from getting it. Still think Groove Coaster (somehow overlooked it when it was paid, but now have the freemium version and am stunned at how generous it is with content) is the best rhythm game on the iOS. Cytus is pretty nice too. sdmiracle Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2010 814 0 0 #14 sdmiracle, Dec 12, 2012 so they just force you to play the same song over and over again in a MUSIC RYTHEM GAME unless you pay more? sounds like a "nah" for me Connector Well-Known Member May 6, 2012 15,512 1 0 In the Chatroom http://thechatroom.freeforums.net/ #15 Connector, Dec 12, 2012 Yeah, groove coaster is a lot of fun. As far as music games on iOS, for something with a story behind it (like Gitaroo Man on PS2/PSP... or EBA on DS) there's nothing I've found better than Fredrick The Resurrection of Music. It takes (like most games) a little bit to get into it and realize how the timing works and the special stuff, but once dialed in... it's IMO just as great as Gitaroo Man (which is one of my favorite music games of all time). For gameplay, Cytus IMO is the best. Groove Coaster is pretty good too but I'd probably put it as my 4th favorite. My 3rd favorite though is Rhythm Control 2. EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #19 EightRooks, Dec 12, 2012 Last edited: Dec 12, 2012 Just to try and make it a little clearer, you don't get just the same song over and over through the whole game, you fight a boss and get to hear his/her song, then you play an intermission level and hear whatever you chose for the heroine's theme song, another boss, another intermission level, another boss, another intermission etc., etc. until you've beaten the game. The boss levels are fine as far as they go - the only thing the IAPs keep back there is the final difficulty level, I think. You can beat the game without spending any more money. But if you don't buy any IAPs, the heroine's costume, her voice, all of that and her theme song that plays in the intermission levels can only ever be one of two possible sets - the basic one you get at the start or the one they give you for free. The boss levels are different, each with their own tune and with different stuff happening behind the actual gameplay. But all the intermission levels are just flying down a long, straight corridor while patterns pop up for you to tap, drag, tap really fast, whatever; I thought the backgrounds for these bits were boring, the music tracks weren't great and hearing the same song in these bits over and over again, with the exact same pattern to play, just got old really fast. If you really like rhythm action and you've got the space I'd say it's worth 99c. It's an okay music game. But not a great one, and the IAPs are really not worth it. You'd have to buy a lot of them to start making the other half of the game, those intermission levels, feel interesting IMO. And you'd have to keep switching your purchases in and out manually to actually get the variety (I don't think there was a setting for "pick a theme for the next intermission level at random from everything I've bought") - plus they don't change the game that radically. violentv Well-Known Member Nov 4, 2010 912 0 16 #20 violentv, Dec 12, 2012 It is really disappointing that everything is locked behind IAPs unlike the Japanese version. =/ (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
