    Yup...

They normally charge for the lite version of the game... And then charge more for the full game... But right now, the lite version (or, the whole 20 levels you normally have to pay for) is free... Like it should originally be... And then you still have to pay for the full game...

    Just to clarify..

Now that everyone's had a good laugh :), here's to clarify:

When Prison Mayhem was launched on iPhone last year, the game used a 'try before you buy' model. So users got to try the first 6 levels for free before having to unlock the remaining 44 levels using InApp. Well, that didn't work out too well for us after the initial hype died down and we decided to experiment a bit.

So the game was re-launched last week with a changed model. Now the user does not have to part with $3.99 for the full game but pay for a part of it for the first 20 levels ($1.99) and use InApp to purchase the remaining 30 levels ($1.99).

The game is quite fun to play in the first 20 levels and we feel justified to charge for the initial 20 levels. If the user really likes it, he'll use InApp to unlock the remaining 30 levels. So far, over 450 customers purchase InApp in the last 4 days so we feel that they are liking what they are playing. And maybe you should too, as you have nothing to lose during this limited time.

And to the gentleman who checked out the HD version, it's still following the old model (try before you buy). If this little experiment with iPhone version works out, we'll change the monetization model there as well. Who know, we may have a few lessons to share as well on the forum soon

    Perhaps further clarification is needed?

Are you suggesting that people preferred paying twice for a game over trying a free trial and then buying extra materials if they liked what they saw?

It would seem that once the game went free (like, as in the past four days), people would see it as a free trial, or "Lite" version, no?

    DBC

  18. Yea, this is just a lite version and shouldn't be posted here. Not a fan of this pay for lite and pay more for more levels. It almost smells of a scam.

I wish companies would just stick to a lite version if they want to make games for a demo, and just give us all the levels. If they want to come out with a version 2 with a lot more levels, just repackage it and sell it as a new game. I'm not fond of companies like the game Amazing Breaker where they make you buy programs or pay for more levels all the time.

Anyway, this game isn't even any good.

    More clarifications..

We wanted to see if people who like these kinds of game would do an impulse purchase and then if they really like it, purchase the rest of the content. So instead of a free trial + $X for the full game as InApp, we thought, we'll do a X/2 for 20 levels and X/2 for next 30 levels as InApp

That thought did not cross our minds. We haven't seen many games (if any) that give away 20 levels for Free (Free as in 'No Ads', etc.)

And to clarify, we re-launched this game on Monday (14th May) and went free on (16th May). So it's been out there for 4-5 days in all now..
