    WRONG SIDED DEFENDER
Today's defender isn't technically a type, or cliche, but rather an occurrence that happens fairly often...the Wrong Sided defender.

In times of injury, suspension, or even sometimes due to tactics, a defender might need to play on the other side of the field. A left footed player on the right hand side is never as good as someone that belongs there, but it doesn't mean he'll do a bad job either. Tactically it's interesting as the attackers could use this to their advantage, getting him to constantly push attackers to the inside as that would be for his stronger foot. This doesn't necessarily equal a problem though as a good defender can always adapt.

Soccer Moves introduces the Wrong Sided player as he adds an extremely unique movement to the pitch.

    Can you get around him?

We're a small iOS and Android development team who previously worked on console games, though now focus on iOS & Android. Our core team each spent 10 years in the UK games industry working for Disney, Eurocom and Eidos, titles like Split/Second, Disney Universe, Championship Manager and many others.

Fuzzy Logic is now based in South Africa, near the beach on the garden route in the Cape. We're all South African, so the idea of moving back and still getting to work on games was awesome. We've spent the past two years working on the AppTag products as well as our own titles, one of which is Soccer Moves. We hope you end up enjoying it as we really love it and have put so much effort into it.

    1st Defender - Hardman

The game involves a number of different defender types who are inspired by defenders past.

Today we'd like to reveal the first of these.....the Hardman.

Every team has one, the bully, the one that gets a bit to aggressive, the one that might only really be there for the fight! Inspired by the likes of Vinnie Jones, Neil Ruddock, Duncan Ferguson, Terry Butcher, anyone from Wimbledon...

The Hardman is one of our favourite, even though his moves are very limited.

Can you name a harder defender from your favorite league?

Based on the grid around the player...is this soccer meets advanced wars?

I'm hoping for a little like blood bowl ? :D turn based football sounds promising but I'd like to see some gameplay video or screen?
    Is there a beta?

Gameplay trailer will be coming in the next week - and a beta is a good idea. Stay tuned!

Now I'm totally confused and not quite sure what to expect. I was thinking it was going to be an arcade style soccer game but this sounds completely different.

    2nd Defender - Jouneyman

The second defender we're introducing today is the Journeyman.

He's the guy in the team that isn't actually that great, but he's not that bad either. He's the one that is always picked, probably at right back, since he trains the hardest and knows more about the opposition that anyone. He's the guy that ends up with a 20 year career as there's always some team that needs this exact player, not the most skillful, but the most dedicated...the Journeyman.

Inspired by the likes of Gary Neville, Abel Xavier, Danny Mills - they might not technically be the best, but they've always been key to their teams success!

    Who's your favourite Journeyman?

    Gameplay trailer added!

Yesterday’s defender movie was just a teaser, as we knew all along you wanted a gameplay trailer.

    So here it is!

Hmmm doesn't look like its for me after all, from seeing the grid on one of the early screen I was expecting something turn based and tactical but from the gameplay trailer it looks more like a cutesy version of that other game score classic goals. Oh well my hopes for a turn based blood bowl style football game still is just a dream.

It actually is turn based and tactical! I could see why Score would be referred to, but we dont think it's the same at all, due to the turn based element and specific types of defenders.

    The Defenders

Soccer Moves defenders are part of what makes this a strong puzzler...

Each defender moves in a different way, influenced by their different personality. Hardman for instance isn't very quick, so he can only tackle (or punch) you from the eight blocks around him - he also isn't very good at intercepting, so you can use this against him. The Journeyman on the other hand just kind of gets in the way for tackles, but he reads the game a lot better and can intercept more often.

All of the defenders each have their traits and skills, which allows us to create unique levels in which the user needs to really think about how to score the perfect goal.

Thanks Gansta, we appreciate the feedback!

To give you some more info on the defenders:

Each of the defenders then have different influences for tackle, intercept and run. These are all based on the personalities and work a bit like a chess piece.

Sweeper for instance can run two right/left and one forward. His intercept is 2 left/right since he is pretty good at sweeping up, but his tackle zone is terrible in front or behind him.

Hardman is terrible at intercepting as he mostly wants to hit you - so you cant really dribble around him, you should instead look to pass and stay as far away as possible!

Just curious is this App going to be universal or is there separate versions for iPhone\iPod's and iPad's?

Soccer Moves will be universal, though we believe its great looking on the iPad. Our art style isn't super realistic, meaning we can ensure a high quality across the different screens.

    The Shield

Our next defender is the Shield who is inspired mostly by Makhelele, who basically created this type of defensive player.

He might not be the most glamourous, but might have the most important role on the pitch. He breaks up attacks, protects the defense and quickly gets it to the forwards to attack.

These days it's as if teams can't be successful without a Makhelele, Flamini, Simeone, Deshamps and lets not forget Dunga!

Let us know which are your favourite defensive midfielders!
