Ever since I started reading The Hobbit, I have been wanting a good free adventure game in which you travel around ,fight creatures , etc. I think that kind of game is called an RPG. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway , do you know of anything like that ? Freemium is okay , although I don't like games with energy meters.

P.S. this is my first post.

Yep - its RPG if its like Skyrim, and MMORPG if its a RPG with a large player community.
There are lots of RPGs/MMORPGs on the app store

Order & Chaos Online - http://www.ign.com/prime/promo/orderandchaos-free get your own code while it lasts (its $6.99)

Dungeon Hunter 1-4 - 1 and 2 are premium while 3 and 4 are freemium, would recommend 2, though.

Heroes of Order & Chaos - Its a MOBA, plays and looks like DotA/LoL, and its free.

Contact Exact-Psience, he knows every game you don't.

Or, eh, ask this Vovin guy. I've heard he's also quite experienced with that stuff.

Elite hinted they were releasing an 80s classic in August. Wonder if that's the hobbit

I've got a lot of point n click games but not many text adventures. Worth checking out that collection of text adventure (Zork collection). Think they're text only)

It's normally best to compare stuff that is slightly different otherwise there is normally no difference. I'm sure in 1982 there was definitely graphics in the Hobbit though. Beautiful illustrations they seemed at the time too.

    The Quest
    9th Dawn
    Chrono Trigger
    Secret of Mana
    Fall of Angels
    King of Dragon Pass
    Aralon
    Ravenmark 1-2
    Final Fantasy 1-4

Also while not having sprawling environments roguelike games emphasize world exploration in randomized (but sometimes simple) environments so might be to your taste. Consider Mysterious Castle, Dungeon Plunder, Legends of Yore, Cavern, 100 Rogues, Sword of Fargoal.

The hobbit had graphics. You had to wait a minute for the picture to be drawn!

Works well on the speccy emulator I have

And the wait was almost better than the graphics themselves. I used to love going round to friends' houses to play the hobbit. Happy dayz.

Sure it had graphics but you missed my point, The Hobbit was a text adventure, meaning you played the game by entering commands, ie 'go north', 'pick up key', 'light lamp'

Whereas LOM wasn't that kind of game.

Well the hobbit wasn't known as a text adventure. Back in the early 80s you had text adventures which as the name suggests were just text and no graphics. Funny looking back at those now

The poster said he was reading the Hobbit, and wanted games like the Hobbit, as in the book, not the old game. Anyway, the problem is, pretty much every fantasy themed RPG ever made has some Tolkien influence. If you want massively epic adventure, The Quest is really the way to go, though its not free. Perhaps some more info on your preferences, like action vs. turn based, top down vs 1st person view, etc. would help narrow down the very wide range of possible suggestions.

Ah, the Hobbit. Great book, that. I'd say the game you're looking for is Aralon.

Thanks for helping . I just downloaded Order and Chaos . A 6.99 game for free is a pretty good deal . I will have to check next month about the IGN deal.
