Hopefully, the price goes back up to $199.99 so I can brag about it once I do get an iPhone 4. JCat Well-Known Member Mar 11, 2009 515 0 0 CEO E-Commerce NY #5 JCat, Dec 10, 2010 Made with Game Salad? Joking - but it really does take a long time just to restart a game. It's a shame, because this game looks like it could have some addictive qualities. mrWalrus Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2008 790 0 0 designing games Venice, CA #6 mrWalrus, Dec 10, 2010 bah.. sorry guys. Game Salad is brutal with the loading times. It's one of the reasons I had to lock off the older devices. I'm looking into moving away from the engine. In the meantime here's to hoping they figure things out. Sort those out and it'd be a brilliant addictive time-killer, but as it is I deleted it in frustration after five minutes, of which about three and a half were spent loading. (And that was on an iPhone 4.) mrWalrus Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2008 790 0 0 designing games Venice, CA #8 mrWalrus, Dec 10, 2010 They probably don't have half the code or assets in them either. I know it looks simple, but SCSR is quite robust on the code side. Plus I'm keeping everything in one scene, so as not to load in-between rounds. The main culprit though has to be the tutorial, that only loads once, but sadly that's the first thing anyone plays. I had to put all the text in as *.pngs rather than use the engine text, as GS has no font that's optimized for the Retina Display. One other question, if you don't mind, did you have a lot of other programs running in the background? I dev on an iPhone4, but keep it as 'clean' as possible, as it's only used for development purposes. While I've noticed 3-5 second load times I've never encountered the elongated times you've spoken of. Skipping all the intros and getting straight into a game as fast as I possibly could took 32 seconds from tapping the icon to the game screen appearing. From "game over" appearing to restart took 15 seconds. I repeated this several times and it always took 15 seconds. On an iPhone, loading times like that are absolutely suicidal, especially for a game that can easily be over in 20 seconds. Thanks! I'll be building the update with a newer version of GameSalad, which was advertised as having faster loading times. I haven't seen that to be the case on my end. One thing to note, multitasking keeps programs open even after a restart. You might already be aware, but you can check to see if any programs are running by double tapping the home button on the face of the device. You can then close any processes running by holding the screen until the icons shake, just as you would delete an app. Just curious, were any open? I've personally seen the game not launch on some devices if there were too many other programs open. It's awful. I only use GS because I'm not a programmer by trade.. but I am on my way to picking it up. My own times on an iPhone4: 13 second at launch 13 second to load the tutorial 2 seconds to get back to the main menu 11 seconds to the game once the play button is pressed. I see what you're saying.. Not much I'll be able to do about the initial load, but I can certainly do something about a restart. Herosoft Ltd Well-Known Member Nov 23, 2010 155 0 0 #12 Herosoft Ltd, Dec 10, 2010 As I said in my previous post, I closed every single app by that method.
