    Hello TouchArcade!

Kai from Frozenbyte here, with great news about a game that's been in development since 2007 - roughly 7 years now. Splot is coming to iOS on October 23rd.

Splot combines the easy to learn gameplay mechanics of a modern mobile title with the depth and detail of an old-school platformer, with sharp new controls and crispy visuals!

You play as Splot, a one-eyed blue alien who has crash landed onto a strange planet along with his adversaries, the Hungry Blobs. A native population of Birdlings is now in danger of being eaten by the Blobs, and Splot sets out to rescue them. The gameplay of Splot is fast-paced platforming where your goal is to reach all the captured birdlings in time before the Blobs eat them, while racing to the end of the levels as fast as possible.

Splot will be a paid, universal app.

    Key Features
    1. - Race against the Hungry Blob Kings and rescue the endangered Baby Birdlings
    2. - Easy to learn touch controls with stunning precision - maneuver your way through perilous obstacles: spikes, lava, lasers, portals and more
    3. - Level up and boost your abilities with splottastic power-ups such as the Magnet, Freeze and Vacuum
    4. - Collect vault pieces and unlock over 150 different Splots
    5. - Explore seven unique worlds: a peaceful fairy forest, a hazardous space ship, a haunted castle, and many more to discover
    6. - Play through a total of 56 challenging levels and three difficulty settings that put your skills to the test

We hope you like the game as much as we loved developing it! :D

Looks nice, but how's the control works? I don't see virtual button in the video

You're correct - there's no virtual buttons, instead we use tapping and holding. You tap in the direction you want Splot to jump to. You can hold down your tap for increased speed in the air and to slide down walls.

Tapping and holding in the opposite direction of your jump will cause an 'airspin', which allows you to subtly control the jumps and where you will land.

The controls are easy to learn and can be done with just one finger, but for the harder levels it's probably best to use for example two thumbs or two index fingers (one for each half of the screen) to be able to do all the trickier bits.

Yes, it has really taken 7 years - there's quite an interesting story behind the development, which we might open up about once the game is released and someone has the time to write the entire history.

You might have noticed an earlier thread on TouchArcade about Splot which was posted in 2011: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=94500

Since then the game has changed quite a lot and this version is something we're finally happy with. We've been saying that Splot will be released "this year" on many occasions in previous years, but this time it's for real real!

Thanks for the positive comments :) Yeah, on every level you race against one of the Blob Kings. They come in three variations: bronze, silver and gold - which are also the difficulty settings of the game.

On the silver and gold difficulties, the Blob Kings are faster and it's easier to die because there's more hazardous stuff like lasers, spikes and saw blades that can get in your way.
