At the link is one piece of concept art for the game.

Media.Vision, the developers of the Wild ARMs series and more recently The Wizard of Oz RPG, are partnering with Square Enix for a new RPG. The unnamed game will launch on the iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad store later this year. Details about the project are scarce since the semi-announcement comes from a Media Vision hiring spree.

For those wondering, Wild ARMs is a Western American styled RPG series that extended across the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 platforms. They're actually pretty decent turn-based RPGs (especially the earlier ones) that had its own particular style from the art to the mood of the setting / story and how the overworld and dungeons played out (dungeons were puzzle-orientated and like Zelda items could be used in the overworld to overcome obstacles and discover secrets).

Whether Media.Vision will part with any such designs on this new RPG is another thing, though.

I'm pretty sure Sony owns the publishing rights to it.

EDIT. Just checked and yep, Sony owns the publishing rights to it.

We need Jupiter to make an iPhone game. The World Ends With You continues to rank among my favorite games of all time.

Considering the concept art, it may be an action-RPG with two intertwining quests. Sort of like Squares PS1 game "Threads of Fate". Then again, when it comes to Media.Vision all of their RPGs have been turn-based affairs so an action-RPG would be quite a departure for the studio.
