new 3DS vs Iphone 6

If you're gonna get it only for gaming then go for 3DS but if you want a device that can do pretty much all daily tasks and a bit of gaming get the iPhone. And if you already have an iPhone 5 or a 5s go for the 3DS

 

You have two choices Pokemon or Infinity Blade. Your call. (It's grossly over simplifying it but if you want those Mario Cart, MH, Pokemon, and Zelda you want a 3DS, if you want MC5, angry birds, and a highly portable all-in-one device you want a iPhone).

 

Then it comes down to this; if you wanna play Nintendo exclusive games you should get a 3DS and play there while using your phone as a phone and a casual gaming device. Or you'll get the new iPhone and do everything there. iPhone probably has better(still not that good though) FPS games while 3DS excels at RPG's think about that too.

 

Interesting question. Let's look at what makes them different.

3DS offers: physical controls that make action games much more precise, Nintendo games that you won't get anywhere else. Games, though, are expensive - anywhere from 2x - 40x more than iOS games. Also, many games are physical carts so you can't store your whole library inside the device.

IPhone offers: massive app store with many games priced incredibly cheap, many even free, and even the most expensive are "cheap" compared to consoles. It also performs many tasks beyond gaming, so it's much more versatile than a 3DS. However, despite the great app store, you still won't find as many AAA type games, and even if you do they will be somewhat limited by touch-only controls.

So, IMO, if you value Nintendo games, physical controls, and don't mind paying the price, then go 3DS. If you're fine with the sort of games we typically get on iOS, then go iPhone. Either way you'll be spending a bunch of money in the end.

 

If you want that much a 3DS I'd say go for it. You're just 2 generations behind anyway.

 

These days I can't imagine why anyone would buy a 3ds when they could have an iPhone. The game prices are just crazy in comparison.

That said you have an iPhone 5 which is still a damn good phone. If I were you I'd probably carry on saving and then get next year's iPhone 6s

 

Yeah, iPhone 5 is still an extremely capable device.

Here's my take on it:

I have an iPhone 5S. I've been a hardcore iOS for about 5 years now. Prior to that, I've been a Nintendo boy when it came to handhelds (I've had all the handhelds since the original gameboy) but I skipped getting a 3DS because I got so into iOS. Well, I just picked up a 3DS XL a month ago and I'm very very glad I did.

Look at it this way, iOS is fantastic, the games are cheap, and there's loads and loads all the time. Usually more than you're able to actually play. And it's great, yet overwhelming. Though there are definite limits because it also has to power a phone and it's only controls are a touch screen.

3DS on the other hand has games from $2-$40. The eShop on 3DS is desperately underrated, with a ridiculous amount of amazing games from $5-$15. Sure, basically all physical games are going to be $40 (if they're new, their prices drop fast) but the really really good ones, are really really damn good. They're worth the $40. There's no currency shenanigans and rarely any control issues. The best of the best, such as Fire Emblem: Awakening or Zelda: ALBE, are waaaaay above the best on iOS (despite a few suggestions). There's just something about physical controls, and the fact that the games are built for a designated gaming platform.

The screen isn't as sharp, so textures aren't nearly as smooth as on iOS, but because 100% of the system is made for gaming, the system can handle much much larger games. Plus, you can buy SD cards if you ever run low on space. It comes with a free one too.

Plus, you can play Nintendo games, which iOS can't.

Final Verdict:
You don't need a new iPhone. The iPhone 5 is perfectly fine.

I highly suggest a 3DS. It's a wonderful system and is extremely wonderful to use. There's just so many great games that you can play that simply wouldn't work well on iPhone.

But, I do suggest you wait and get one of the "New" 3DS models. They come out on the 11th in Japan and sometime in 2015 in Europe and North America. This model has a better CPU, more RAM, a better battery, a second analog stick, and 4 shoulder buttons (compared to the 2 shoulder buttons of the current 3ds models). So yes, I highly suggest you get one of the "New" models because they are very superior to the current ones, there will even be games that only the "New" models will be able to play.

So, I say get a "New" 3DS, but this could mean quite a bit of waiting depending on where you live.

 

There's loads of awesome indie games on the Vita though.

Do you have Steamworld Dig (btw, originally released on 3DS), CounterSpy, Guacamelee, or Velocity 2X?

Plus, Binding of a Isaac Rebirth and Frozen Synapse Prime are coming out soon

 

But those games DO look amazing on Vita (CounterSpy especially). Indie doesn't low budget or lesser visuals, or less fun. And a lot of those games wouldn't work well on iPhone.

Well, to each their own.

I do however, really recommend the 3DS. Just wait till the New versions come out.
