Hey, I have been programming in VB.NET/.NET. What I;m wondering if I can program with .NET on the SDK. If I cant is there a list off the top of your head of all the languages you can program in? (C, etc...)

    Thanks again

What in the world would make you think you can use .NET with the iPhone?

I mean I guess you could use Mono but... Ugh, why would you want to?

I wish I could figure out why you need this weird defensive attitude whenever you post anything.

    From wikipedia:
.NET for Windows is like Obj-C for Mac. They will not work on the other OS.
You have to use Obj-C (and therefore C) to develope for the iPhone and you may use C++.

If you use Unity to make iPhone apps, then you use Mono, and C# or Unity's version of Javascript, which is more similar to JScript. Only version 1.1 of Mono I think, though, to keep library code size down.

I could have been nicer?!? Huh?
You asked a question, you were looking for a factual answer...
I answered in such a way that there should have been no ambiguity, as the previous response didn't answer everything you asked.

And yes as a .NET developer myself I was amazed and still am amazed that you needed to ask. I wasn't trying to be (or not) your friend I was trying to answer your question.

well, the "I'm amazed you'd even have to ask" and "what in the world would make you think"... implies that the OP was asking a ridiculous question (I don't think it is ridiculous at all)... they could have just given the answers without adding that... it makes users hesitate to ask questions...

From what I'm hearing Unity has limited support for Mono which is an open source implementation of .NET... so I don't see why the question was ridiculous at all, since there is at least some option available...

Well I did think it was a ridiculous question, and in fact it is a ridiculous question if you are talking about true .NET. Mono is not .NET as you said, it is an open source implementation of it. There is a big difference there.

Now I took the OPs question to mean he was talking about the Microsoft .NET framework and CLR. Maybe that was wrong of me to do but I actually think it was a pretty reasonable assumption to make. So with that in mind and the fact the OP says that he is a .NET developer, it was pretty amazing to me that he had to ask. Of all the very many .NET developers I know who are familiar with the iPhone every single one of them has enough knowledge of the architecture to know that .NET is a no-go on the iPhone. I apologise if my real world experience of this doesn't translate to yours or anyone else's perception. And as I said before, I wasn't trying to make friends, I was answering his question.

Now with all that said: http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2009/01/open-source-mono-framework-brings-c-to-iphone-and-wii.ars

I think this thread should now be locked before it gets any more ridiculous with posters, me included, debating whether or not we were overly aggressive in answering the question or the OP was overly touchy in receiving the responses. (and because it would mean I have had the last work :)
