Just wondering what app development software would be good for a beginner.

Is there software out there for someone with very little coding experience?

Gamemaker is a pretty straight forward place to start. Not too complex to get to grips with at all and focussed on 2d.

Unity3d is ok for beginners, the only real issue with it is more the sheer volume of tutorials etc. There's some great video tutorials available for taking you through making whole games from scratch, both from Unity themselves as well as completely free on YouTube.

Unreal is actually surprisingly decent for a beginner. The nature of the Blueprint scripting makes it easy to get to grips with the logic of gameplay without having to actually mess with the nuts & bolts of code.

Something like using Objective-C/Swift with SpriteKit could be great for beginners. Lots of Apple documentation and help from forums online. Also, great place to start in game development with a 2d platform.

You can try starting with non-coding game making software like Construct2, GameSalad, Stencyl.
You will soon find their limitations, but they are very easy to get into
