I'm a new developer currently working on my first App. I've had this game on my phone for a while called Doodle Run and noticed recently an identically named App was just released (by two different developers). This is interesting because the name I chose for my App has also recently been taken, so now I'm wondering is it actually possible to have two apps with the same name on there? Original Doodle Run: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/doodle-run/id351460205?mt=8 Identically named App: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/doodle-run/id415606854?mt=8 Anyone heard of this before?
Apple didn't always enforce this. Currently, itunes connect will prevent a newly created app from using the name of any existing/pending app. But you can also change your app's name with an update. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this provided a backdoor mechanism for copying another app's name.
Update Looks like one of those games now has a new name, now called Doodle Runner rather than Doodle Run.
There are at least two apps called "blocked" on the app store, and it's been that way for at least a year and a half now. So nothing new.
Interesting...I didn't know you could actually change your App Name with an update. I'm sure there are valid reasons a developer would need to do this but it still seems like a workaround mechanism for someone trying to do...shady things.
i dont know what apple's policy is, exactly. but based on what i see and taking into consideration the way apple handled this kind of stuff in the past. it looks like apple does not allow identical names but it seems like they do allow similar names. as long as no one raises a stink about it.
