Thanks for the quick response, I love it when devs have their threads on insta-notification! Never heard about SpaceTripper either, I'll check it out on the internetz.
So are the shader and lighting effects very advanced, or just basic stuff? Also, if you can, giving the car a dynamic shadow would be really awesome (a shadow that has the shape of the car but appears in the opposite direction depending on the lighting (like in GT Racing, but not faked.))
From what I remember when Luke showed me the shader stuff a couple of months back, the sun (light source) altered the way the shadows and the colours on the track moved about, making it very dynamic and more realistic. This is for the track mind and not the car... not sure what is planned for the car at this stage.
I was experimenting with using spherical harmonic lighting to do internal reflections on the track, which was kind of cool, and not an effect I can recall seeing used in a game, however, I can see why now. Although, it did look kind of cool, it just isn't worth it for how how much resources it uses up. I don't think the iPhone will cope. Where still not sure what new effects will make it into JCS2, but a more realistic shadow is under consideration, but not confirmed yet. One thing that you can definitely expect is a much improved lighting model on the car.
I've been playing some more of this game, trying to beat my old times. And the one thing I'd love to see in the sequel is a first person/cockpit view.
so i can vomit uncontrollably from motion sickness... although it wouldn't be practical, it would be awesome
Just a suggestion. But a huge addition that would be sequel worthy would be a racing mode with 4 colors of cars (ei: blue, red, yellow, green) and the time trial tracks. Then you'd have a race mode. And online multiplayer would be a plus too.
We are thinking about some of those things... Although, I'm not sure about a vomit cam Iteresting to think what the cockipts would look like for these cars. They must need some aeronautics in the dash. However, its not something we are planning on doing. I guess the most exciting feature will be the level editor.
A level editor would be epic and try to allow to abillity to post and download other peoples tracks if that is possible
Also are the track models a little more smooth this time? Last time whenever the track curved upward or to the side, you saw a weird octagonal shape instead of a smooth curve. It's more of a minor detail but something that caught my eye in the original JC1. Well whatever, no matter what the graphics look like, if he gameplay is just as awesome I'll be getting this.
The tracks might be a little smother, however, its more important to us to have the game running super smooth rathen then having the cornerners super smooth.
I'm just reminiscing about watching my car tumble thousands of feet downward towards those beautiful clouds, and it occurs to me that Jet Car Stunts wouldn't have been anywhere near as cool as it was had it taken place on the ground. Good decision having the tracks inexplicably floating ten miles above the world. Also, nice work making the best-controlling driving game in the app store. I'll be looking forward to the sequel.
