Our new pirate game, Silver Skull, just went live in the app store several weeks ago and we have decided to change our icon for the next update. We have a few options but are always open to using any new ones you suggest or send us! I like the S letter and my favorite option is 6, with the blue background and the waves - the one in option 4 looks too much like a tribal tattoo. I'd avoid the anchor since it might give the impression that you want to go after harbor master. The ship silhouette is quite good looking and therefore option 3 is my second choice.
In my personal opinion, i think option #4 is the best. The other icons look too generic and can be used for icons of just about anything pirate / ship related. The "S" to me represents the Silver Skull, and the "S" is used in the title with the same font. I prefer #4 over #6 because i think it just works.
I really like option 3 but there is something missing. Letters on the icon is redundant and anchors been there done that as thats is what most people use.
3 is pretty cool as just a pic but not an icon, but I really am not grabbed by any of the choices ...maybe a sillhouette of a pirate standing on the prow of ship #3, much closer in and framed by the sun ...or do something based on the "Silver Skull" since that is your game
Man you guys are harsh! Yeah one thing to consider is that we want something that represents the game play, which is both naval battles but also pirate theme. As background if you haven't played here is a shot from the game: That is why ships, blue, anchors make sense. We are trying to make something that makes users want to click on icon to purchase.
I like #5--anchor with blue wave. I see that most people are voting for ship silhouette (which is also nice) but I think that once it is reduced to the size of an actual icon it will be hard to tell what it is. Too complicated for the small size of the icon.
same here, out of these choices #5 is the best for an icon. #3 is better in concept, but as was said it'll lose too much detail when icon sized.
I have to reiterate that using the Anchor option is quite played out. It won't grab me if I shift my brain to the base sense of "ooh look pretty icon dododooo..." Numero 3 is almost there as it's very pleasant to look at but something is missing. Please create more options, color schemes, and graphical additions to #3 and we can go from there.
why not use this skull artwork from the main menu without the text on the original icon and keep the hat
Or maybe some variation of that ship artwork? And I definitely do not like the anchor icon. There is no way I would click on that if i saw it on the app store. My favorite is probably the ship silouette...except something about it makes me feel like such an icon wouldn't represent a game maybe a more closeup ship (not silhouetted) that's either in combat, or has a pirate flag (with silver skull logo crossbones?) or something...
The silhouette should be darker, and the background should be gloomier, thus giving it a more pirate-ey feel.
number 3 is best, I'd rather see a silver skull, sideways instead of front, with the graphics of nr 3 reflecting on the skull (sunset/ship)
