Add Civilization Revolution to the TBS. The graphics are a bit messy, but the gameplay is rock-solid.

And Red Conquest is without a doubt the best RTS on the platform. The UI is confusing at first, but it's extremely elegant once you're accustomed to it.

I agree, the RTS genre is severely lacking on the iphone platform. :(

PLAY AS THE DECAY! HIGHBORN CHAPTER 3, “THE AUDACITY” NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE!

The Decay start off Chapter 3 in quite the predicament, with their leader, Arch-Lich Floyd, trapped in the deepest, darkest dungeon. Time for you to take control of the Decay to fight against the Highborn and figure a way out of this pickle!

    **********
“Highborn comfortably sits as one of the best turn-based strategy games we have played on the iPhone.” – TouchArcade.com

“Combines some of the best aspects of the genre’s top alumni with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek comedy. 5 out of 5!” – AppSpy.com

“The iPhone hosts plenty of turn-based strategy games, but few with the humor and pop of Highborn.” – IGN.com

“I would recommend Highborn to strategy game experts and those looking to try one out for the first time too.” – TouchReviews.net
    **********

Check out the Highborn gameplay trailer at http://www.youtube.com/JetSetGames

Highborn for the iPhone and iPod Touch is a casual, turn-based strategy game, perfect for gaming on the go, or for anyone looking for an intelligent, tactical experience without the frenetic play of a traditional real-time strategy game.

Highborn features two types of strategy games in one. Move your army around an overhead map to capture points of interest and receive spells and combat support; then dive into 3D combat to deploy those advantages against an unsuspecting enemy!

All the fun and fighting is set against an irreverent take on the classic good-versus-evil tale. Eight wacky heroes banter about, trading dialogue full of miscommunications and outrageous assumptions.

A LIGHT TOUCH – Enjoy a satisfying strategy experience, no matter if you spend minutes or hours with the game.

TIME FOR A NEW STRATEGY – A unique blend of strategic movement and 3D combat that caters to a variety of gameplay styles and offers immense replayability.

MUTLIPLAY AT YOUR PACE – Think, then act in round-based play via OpenFeint’s 30-million-person community. Have multiple games going at once, and trash-talk your opponents in player-to-player chat.

MANY STYLES OF PLAY – Unlock hero characters for access to different abilities and play styles, along with different strategies to use against your opponents.

ACHIEVE GREATNESS – More than 20 single-player and multiplayer gameplay achievements to unlock, including judicious use of turns, using your monks as bait, and making it through an entire mission without capturing any support structures.

MORE CHALLENGES IN CHAPTER TWO – Double the gameplay with an in-app purchase of Chapter 2 that adds eight new missions, new enemies and allies, and multiple new structures, like factories and teleporters.

SWITCH SIDES IN CHAPTER THREE – Take control of the Decay in an in-app purchase, and fight against the Highborn through eight hilarious new missions. Even more new units, structures and spells are at your command in this parody-packed Chapter.

Highborn is developed by a team of industry veterans, many of who created the original Command & Conquer products, including Rade Stojsavljevic, Joseph B. Hewitt, IV, and Westwood Studios Co-Founder, Brett W. Sperry.

RTS for Real Time Strategy: Knight Defense

Lol ok this requires a bit of explanation. After a hectic play of a level I beat I couldn't resist quote this great fun strategy game with many action elements (real time). If I played first levels a bit more like a dynamic TD, as levels difficulty progressed I play it more and more like a dirty fighting game. I know it's not what expect OP. :)

Mecho wars is the closest thing to Advance Wars (the best tbs ever, in my opinion. I really wouldn't know. It's the only non-iPhone tbs I've played.) and it's a good amount of fun. And it's only a dollar.

Battle for Wesnoth is... I really don't know. I was never able to really get into it.

Galcon is an amazing pick-up-and-play RTS.

Red Conquest is good, if a bit shallow. I'd recommend it if you don't have much RTS experience.

Land Air Sea Warfare is pure win. The randomly generated maps, the great amount of units, buildings, and strategic choices to make, and the great controls make it my favorite strategy game on the iDevice.

Jump into an exciting war between the Winged Crusade and the Landians! Mecho Wars is a turn-based strategy game where you command your troops to expand control and conquer your enemies. Strategically position your troops because each type has its strengths and weaknesses.

Command your troops to conquer structures for your team's benefit. Capture factories to expand maximum army support. To pay for this large army, take-over cities to earn gold from the rich economic hubs. Finally, defeat the enemy by capturing their H.Q. structures.

Included in the game is a rich story-driven single player campaign, a special set of individual challenge maps, and remarkable multi-player support with a single device.

The single player campaign is a story about the rise of the Winged Crusade. The story takes place in a distant land known as the Divination Deserts. This is not your typical desert since there is plenty of water separating land masses. Mecho Wars features a unique day-night cycle where water will freeze overnight. Once inaccessible areas by land troops can be reached in the early hours of the morning.

The day-night cycle isn't used only in the single player campaign. Try facing off against a friend in multi-player. Be amused when you place your troops in the right spots for an overnight ambush!

Like Advanced Wars, but on the iPhone. If you like turn based strategy, you should really look at picking this one up. It’s straight up turn based strategy goodness.

If you enjoyed the strategy and planning of Advanced Wars on you gameboy advanced, check out Mecho Wars. It has mostly everything that you would want and retails for a relatively cheaper price.

If you're into strategy titles and need a fix of Advance Wars, Mecho Wars is the best thing currently out for the Touch and iPhone.

    Kotaku.com

Mecho Wars does everything right to suit the iPhone platform. The touch screen controls are well balanced, and compelling gameplay can make for some lengthy struggles over water, land, air and ice. Any game that I can play casually while making pancakes simultaneosly is a winner in my eyes.

I think you've had your hand at the best ones, OP. Red Conquest and Settlers are my favorites. I'm sure there's more out there, but iTunes is so inhibiting when it comes to searching and finding apps. We shouldn't have to rely on review websites; there should be categories with subcategories after subcategories.

Strategy RPG with Customizable Units! “Rebirth of Fortune” is a tactical role-playing game borrowing the combat mode made famous by such Strategy RPGs as “Tactics Ogre” and “Final Fantasy Tactics.”Up to eight of your units battle hoards of mercenaries in turn-based, strategic combat on various terrains. Upgrade and customize your own units to compete in a chess-like strategy game of position and power. Goal of the Game: Your eight individual units share a mutual relationship and utilize various strategies and skills according to their disposition. A devisive strategy is required to beat each of 200 stages and various enemy AIs. If you eradicate the enemy you will be rewarded, and using the rewards fund you can upgrade your units and prepare for greater combat. The Game Rules 1. Before combat you should customize your force and position your units within the spaces allowed. Create and position your units according to the strategy you devise. 2. When it is your turn you select your unit to move and designate the act (attack/special). One turn is limited to 30 seconds, and if your action is not completed in 30 seconds your turn will be passed to the enemy. 3. Unit color turns dark and the unit becomes disabled after it acts. It can act again when the unit color returns to normal a few turns. This attribute is related to the agility of the unit. Units of high agility have relatively short periods of time to be reactivated. 4. You can move the unit to attack the enemy within the unit's individual range of attack. You need a proper strategy according to the terrain and the attributes of your units because each unit has its own field of movement, range and method of attack, and damage value. 5. Once you select to attack an enemy unit, a white circle appears on your screen, which continuously changes its size larger and smaller. This is related to the attack power and accuracy rate. Inflict maximum damage on the enemy unit by touching the circle at its smallest. Also, the most favorable attack positions are when you are standing beside or behind the enemy unit. 6. After your unit performs its action you choose in which direction your unit will wait. The unit receives different damage values according to the direction it faces when attacked. 7. The jeweled icons and gauge bars at the top of the screen indicate special techniques available. Some units use just one orb per special, while others use more (up to five, for extremely powerful spells/buffs). When the gauge fills up, a new orb appears. The gauge bar fills up slowly over time, but fills faster when your unit is attacked or killed. 8. Each unit has a unique special ability according to its class and orbs available. Special techniques are very powerful and can turn the tides of war. You should be ready to collect orbs and use the proper special technique according to your situation in battle. 9. When you progress in battle and anihilate the entire enemy team, you win. Because the healer unit has no means of attack, a team is considered destroyed even if it has a healer still alive. With the compensation obtained from victory, you should upgrade your units and get ready for the next battle. 10. In the beginning you won't be able to use all eight units. You should upgrade your available units with the war funds obtained from battle, and you'll be able to use the locked units upon meeting the unlocking requirements. This configuration is a sort of growth tree.
