What ships and module/ability combinations do you use in Isotope? I use the Ju, a laser ship, with Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Omega modules, with level 3 heal ability. Anyone has any opinions on what's the best combo to use? To achieve different purposes, for example, the best combo for quick leveling, or the best combo for combat, etc. And just any general ideas. I didn't see any threads for this game besides the release thread, and there's a lot of stuff to talk about here. So yeah.

  2. I use the healing satellite

For the abilities I use Stop Time, Mega Laser, Plasma Field and either Bomb or Healing

I like to play with Ju, Cass or Zirconium.

If you want to earn fast experience or credits then the easiest way is the last level of epsilon with a level 3 mega laser. You can do this even with a level 1 ship, and get heaps of experience.

Otherwise the very last level with Stop time, Plasma Field, Bomb and Mega Laser is even better for getting credits, once you can beat the boss quickly enough.

Shen you madman. 472 million!! With Ju no less. Is it really that much better than Cass, or are you just a crazy pilot? I'm on 175 mil with Cass :p

But yeah Sierra, Modules are obvious, for Abilities I like Mega Laser, Stop, Plasma Aura & Bullet Break (mostly used in Survival!). The Heal satellite is great for Survival as well.

For levelling, Like Shen said, last mission of Epsilon is great. I use it for the first bunch of levels, then play the last mission of Theta for the remaining levels. For that one I just use Stop and Mega Laser when he goes green. Takes a few tries but the levels come quick!

For cash, second last map of Theta is what I tend to play. Nice and fast & doesn't take too long before you have more money than you know what to do with!

Survival, start at level 90 and go nuts... I'm still a bit of a noob in that area. I think we need Shen to spill some beans on how he got that high score of his!! :D

Actually, the Ju really is extremely powerful. Modules are pretty obvious, and my choice of abilities is quite similar to yours, Renz. I saw Shen at the top with 400+ million, lol. How on earth do you get that high?

Second level? Um, try replaying the first level and upgrading your ship. Or, since you're at the second level only, restart and try easy.

  7. I think it just takes some getting lucky with the bosses and turrets.

Right now Ju is a bit nicer for me to play, because the boss worm has millions of hit points, and takes forever to beat. The laser can focus right on his head the whole time, unlike the spread guns, where lots of the bullets end up missing.

The main things that kill me on survival are the circle boss (I use stop time and mega laser for him too), and red turrets.

I try to start each level at the bottom of the screen, about 3 squares in from the side and 2 from the bottom, so things don't spawn directly under you.

Also, don't shy away from using your abilities. It is no good if you die and still have a bunch of powers you could have used.

Hey guys, me and cidstrom have a couple of questions for you guys.

    1) What types of new enemies AI's you would like to see in the game?
    2) What types of new abilities would you like to see in the game?
    3) What types of new firing patterns for the player ships would you like to see in the game?
    4) What types of levels would you like to see more of in the game?

Also, we have a few test web levels that you guys can try out whenever you get a chance:

    Thanks!

When you are in the ship store for each ship entry there is an info icon. Press the info icon and it will tell you the gun type and bullet type for that ship.

    Hello,

My opinion on Isotope changed very quickly once I bought the full version. I love the game.

The one thing I really want to see is a way to sort your modules and abilities. It seems they're listed in the order purchased, rather than grouped in any kind of sensible way. It makes it a pain to change out ships for levelling as searching out the modules and abilities I want from that long list is a hassle.

So add a sort option and I'll be a happy camper.

    1) I particularly liked that constantly multiplying enemy, it really looked cool (okay, I admit I used it for farming, a bit). It would be really cool if that one could multiply indefinitely, hence creating a real need to destroy it.

    2) While this isn't actually an ability, I think a lot of people would appreciate regenerating health. But in terms of more abilities, I think you've already covered a lot of ground. A cloaking ability would be cool, and an ability which repels all bullets and enemies.

If I may state my own personal opinion on this matter, I'd prefer that abilities weren't limited, but rather took a long time to reload. Especially in Survival mode, I am sometimes unwilling to use my abilities because I'm always saving it for later, and end up never using it. But it isn't too much of an issue, and if you feel that it's an issue with balancing or whatever else, I'm fine with it too.

    3) I find the bullets and homing thing look too similar. It would be cool if you fired two missiles at one time, and they had little glowing contrails as they flew towards their target. Some visual distinction between the bullet and homing thing would be really cool. Like how all the ships fire of missiles, and you watch as it leaves an trail behind until it strikes the enemy.

Also, what's the difference between Stream, Normal, and Scatter? I don't really understand that. I'd like to see a pulse weapon. If you know what a sound gun looks like (in video games, admittedly), it shoots out a pulse in a particular direction, but it expands and weakens as it travels. Properly balanced, it would be an awesome addition to the weapon collection.

And of course, just mix and match with the current weapon collection you have now.

    4) More of modes than levels, if you want to stay strictly in single player, then objective based modes would be a good idea. For instance, you could defend a particular compound from being reacted with undesired elements ( if you want to keep with the chemistry theme), or attacking an objective. If you're willing to go outside the chem stuff, then you could create escort missions, attack/defend, capture the flag (or the chem equivalent of one).

If I may make a suggestion, online multiplayer would work beautifully. I was very close to buying Xpilot, but it didn't quite suit me graphically. Isotope is one of the most beautiful game graphical themes I've ever seen. In future updates, multiplayer would definitely complement your main campaign and different game modes. I'd even say that, once you've balanced different game modes, you could even create a new campaign mode with a storyline out of Escort, Seek and Destroy, Attack, Defend, Capture, Siege, etc. Perhaps you could even, in the still-hypothetical new campaign, include independent ally fighters, which you could fight alongside. Or even better, have an option to do survival in co-op. Or even do the whole campaign in co-op, alongside the multiplayer.

As a suggestion for implementing multiplayer; charge for it as an in-app purchase. You need the money to maintain online servers.

Sorry if my ideas seem a bit wild, but with the quality of your game, and your active participation in the community, your game has the potential to exceed any 2D shooter on the App Store. If you want ideas, look at XPilot, CSone, even games like iDracula, Paradise: The beginning, Dropship, and Nanofighter. All your add ons like any possible future game modes, new campaigns, and especially multiplayer, really have the potential to expand your game a lot. You really should charge for all of this, because your game is worth it. I'd easily pay another $1.99 for a new campaign with new game modes, $0.99 for more of the current level packs and ship/weapons, and $3.99 for multiplayer with the different game modes and co-op.

Thanks for the great game and being such an active developer. I'm definitely looking forward to any updates for Isotope.

Should I get this game? How high is its replayability? Is the game long?
