Congrats any way, even number 6 in the uk is an achievement so it is well deserved! You might want to fix the app store description there. Personally though, It looks good but it would have been much better to make the other full trainz simulator game finally not play like a desktop game, fix the missions and add steam trains to that. Now THAT would be an update which could actually push the charts in the top 3 for real. Tony@N3VGames Member Feb 8, 2013 13 0 0 #7 Tony@N3VGames, Feb 13, 2013 Well #3 Overall from 9pm Saturday Feb 9 until 2pm Tues Feb 2, so unless you would like me to update the heading every few days, I guess we can safely say it was accurate at the time of writing? (And according to AppAnnie it hasn't dropped below #4 since, so perhaps the stats aren't as accurate as I thought?) Perhaps you haven't played Trainz Simulator for iPad since V1.3 released in Sept 2012? That included the steam train add-on, and introduced a number of the mobile improvements from Trainz Driver such as 3D nav points etc. On a side note, Trainz Sim on iPad spent almost a week at #1 Overall App even in the USA back in June 2011 (well prior to the latest improvements). I know this app isn't a mainstream product, but if people don't like a pony game for girls, they don't seem to worry as they recognize the audience for what it is - a niche. When it comes to trains, it seems that people ar a little harsher in their criticism Tony@N3VGames Member Feb 8, 2013 13 0 0 #8 Tony@N3VGames, Feb 13, 2013 It was #3 for almost 3 days Saturday to Tuesday and currently shows as #4 so I'm not sure whether you are looking iPhone or iPad? Unless you'd like me to change the heading every few days to make it accurate I think we're ok (I will update the app description however - thanks for that. Perhaps you haven't played Trainz Sim for iPad since the Sept 2012 update (V1.3) which introduced steam trains and more of the mobile elements from Trainz Driver such as 3D nav points etc? It also managed to do quite well on the iPad charts reaching #1 even in the USA for a week or so in June 2011. Not bad for a port of a PC game, and getting better all the time as we continue to work on this aspect of our franchise. Lastly, I'd love to know why a pony game for girls is understood as a niche product that won't please everyone, whereas a train game seems to cop criticism for being boring or whatever. If you check out the 1,000 5 star reviews, that's a lot of people who have taken the time to tell us how much they love the product. This isn't very big in app terms, but we're pretty happy with our current market penetration and overall market acceptance. visionwebs Well-Known Member Jan 24, 2012 1,144 0 0 #9 visionwebs, Feb 13, 2013 Last edited: Feb 13, 2013 no need to be defensive about it, I wasnt attacking you or the game, in fact i think it's decent Not sure what a pony game has to do with it though but I never even bother to rate those sorts of games, let alone download them in the first place and I don't think these games are boring either... Ponies...?.... Sometimes constructive criticism is intended to be a positive thing Never mind. I did congrats you for making it to a high rank and said it was well deserved, perhaps you didn't see this bit because if I didn't mean it I wouldn't have said it. If I thought the game was complete crap I would have said that too, and some games I have done As it is here, I don't. As for the app store ranking position I actually said that to be positive because I wouldn't want you to be misunderstood by most gamers sifting through the app store reading game titles and bold claims because there are lots companies out there that do that sort of thing saying their game is no.1 For example, when it isn't near it and people tend to look past those quite quickly so it's good to be accurate with things like that. Well This must be the first time on touch arcade I am apologising for trying to be positively constructive lol. (trust me it's not criticism, if it was you would truly know it) Maybe more smileys would have helped As for the steam train thing, that's actually good news. Maybe you're not being defensive but the comment about ponies makes me think you are Having said that I actually do agree with you too. I think however, the reason why 'pony' games get such good ratings is that companies flood them with fake reviews. Take zyngas tiny tower ripoff for example. day one they had 1star ratings in the thousands, pushed a fake update and flooded the game on day two with 1500 fake 5 star ratings from paid sources, this kind of miss-sell should be illegal in most countries but I guess it isn't. It's really nothing to feel bad about because these sorts of companies are desperate and on their way out, yours isn't. If you want to know the sorts of companies I don't like then il point you towards ones that take massive IP franchises and butcher them to death, stick freemium on after that then milk it because they are too large to care about gameplay. I've been playing your trainz games for years now occasionally on and off, they have all had their fair share of bugs but the actual enjoyment and gameplay has more than made up for those. In fact I'd like to compliment you for that. So I sincerely apologise if you thought I was being negative, I wasn't. Because I want to recommend it but when the sale ends today the efforts would be pointless. It gives a good and realistic feeling how to drive a train and how "bad" the brakes are. Good tutorial. oooooomonkey Well-Known Member Jan 15, 2011 6,307 0 0 Forge World #12 oooooomonkey, Feb 13, 2013 Does this have any kind of missions or any goals? Or do you just drive around at top speed without a care in the world? Habakuk Well-Known Member Dec 11, 2008 4,779 9 38 Vienna, Austria http://rossau.wordpress.com #13 Habakuk, Feb 13, 2013 I played it for twenty minutes or so and will pick it up as soon as possible. At least in the interactive "tutorial" there are missions like "keep the speed limit (with a huge cargo train), stop at the navi point (with a small commuter train), blow the horn (on special places only), mind the signals, keep the time schedule" in simulated real life conditions (official and simplified railroad instructions and regulations) and in real time. If you go too fast (what can easily happen on a downhill track) the mission is not accomplished and you have to start the "level" again. It has nothing to do with a model railroad or with something like Railroad Tycoon. You are an engineer and drive different types of locomotives. Mind that real time can be slow and long in railroad's context. But they got the difficult task of a video game right (at least in the first levels I tried) so it's pretty entertaining and amusing. But it's not an action arcade racer. You learn a lot about railway. I am a huge railway (+ streetcars, electric trolleybuses) fanatic (have a model railroad and drove real locomotives on exhibitions as a visitor) and can't believe that statistically out of 100 US Americans only ONE has ever ridden a railroad vehicle (except underground tubes), here in Europe public transit with railways is much more popular. The game won't win a price because of it's graphics (although there are different views and you can zoom in and out and pan around and there is a map with instructions) but that's not the key of the gameplay. There isn't much of that kind in the iOS App Store and for a buck it's certainly worth for railroad fans.
