Hi all, As you all know many shooters have come and gone and we are yet to see ragdoll physics in any of them.I don't know about you,but for me and most other people ragdoll physics add a whole new dimension of fun to the game. The PSP which is inferior in hardware to the iDevices has several shooters with ragdoll physics, one being syphonfilter. It is about time that the iDevices also have ragdoll physics.Does anyone have any news on this,Please inform.
I think it may have to do with Apple's policies on ragdolls in games. A quick search turned these up: Ragdoll Blaster 2 iHurt Lite 3D Rag Doll Physics But being just ragdoll physics games does not make them good, like any good game effects should be transparent to the user so they seem natural and like they fit. Which I am sure plenty of games do! Apples policies are pretty relaxed now, so I think that gore/distasteful games would get rejected but not ragdoll games specifically Mobigame Well-Known Member Patreon Indie Mar 29, 2009 405 0 0 #6 Mobigame, Aug 18, 2011 Did you try Perfect Cell? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/perfect-cell/id390238229?mt=8 There is a lite version too. chase123 Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2010 192 0 0 Pakistan,Karachi. #7 chase123, Aug 18, 2011 Nah!!I am talking about first person shooters with ragdoll physics. Why have'nt we seen one of those? chase123 Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2010 192 0 0 Pakistan,Karachi. #8 chase123, Aug 20, 2011 Is there any FPS to have ragdoll physics? chase123 Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2010 192 0 0 Pakistan,Karachi. #9 chase123, Oct 2, 2011 Well,I guess the PSP has better hardware than an iPod touch if there aren't any 3d ragdolls present on it and it can't handle more than one ragdoll at a time. Sambo110 Well-Known Member Nov 27, 2008 849 0 0 Australia #10 Sambo110, Oct 2, 2011 It doesn't mean the PSP has better hardware. The PSP is built for gaming, with games that sell for $50+, so developers put a lot of work into it. iOS gaming is on a phone or iPod, where most games sell for $1, so no developer is going to put as much money and time into developing a AAA game until the market can handle it. I was always under the impression that the PSP was much more powerful than the iOS devices currently out. atleast for gaming. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,535 1,065 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #12 squarezero, Oct 2, 2011 It has nothing to do with hardware: it's about software and budget. The one Syphon Filter game that uses a limited version of ragdoll physics is Logan's Shadow, produces with the financial might of Sony as a showpiece for the PSP It was made using the Havok engine, which was licensed, one would assume, at considerable cost. There is no Havok engine for iOS, and if there were it would likely be too expensive to license for a less than $10 game. Earlier this year Havok announced a version of their physics engine for Android 2.3 (specifically for the Sony's Xperia Play). It remains to be seen whether Havok will put the effort to create an iOS version, or whether one of Havok's competitors will step into the fray. Personally, I think ragdoll physics on a handheld screen are a waste of resources -- take a look videos of Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow and try to tell the difference in death animations (then compare those with Half-Life 2 or Max Payne 2). I never played Logan's Shadow -- by the time it came out I was done with PSP shooters -- but from videos it looks like the advanced lighting effects have a much bigger impact on the gaming experience than how the bodies crumple. chase123 Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2010 192 0 0 Pakistan,Karachi. #13 chase123, Oct 3, 2011 Last edited: Oct 3, 2011 Agree with this, that is why iOS is not going to be a fully fledged portable console, and because of touch controls that cover almost half of the screen. iOS devices are a bit powerful than PSP but more commercial games come out on it that iOS.
