Yes, the overall rating is important but so is what one or the others have to say about it. And RESPECT to developers who make their apps as accessible as possible to everyone especially those faced with physical challenges. amirrajan Well-Known Member Jan 14, 2014 87 0 0 Software Developer Dallas, Tx #6 amirrajan, Jan 26, 2014 zdn1042 got a promo code. 9 left. zdn1042 Well-Known Member May 10, 2013 642 0 0 #7 zdn1042, Jan 26, 2014 Thanks! Thank you for sharing the game. nightshade3 Member Oct 22, 2013 9 0 0 #16 nightshade3, Jan 27, 2014 I love when developers reach out like this. Makes me get to know them on a more personal level. Read the first blog. It's interesting to know that this game wasn't coded by the original developer. Actually, it makes me wonder what other games that might be floating around waiting for someone to code for an IOS port. That's pretty sweet that you left a job to fulfill something else. From the reading it reads as if this is your first full length game to code? In any case I know it's difficult, I've tried coding (code academy) and when the bugs start popping up I just can't stand trying to debug it. I can certainly relate to having to sit watch someone play something you've poured hours into only for them to get bored in the first couple screens/pages of a game/work. I don't want a code. I want to support you so you don't have to go back to a 9-5 job. I too have intentions of making my way into the freelance world to make my own money through writing. I'll report back on my thoughts of the game itself. Looking forward to it. I've had my eye on it for some time now. amirrajan Well-Known Member Jan 14, 2014 87 0 0 Software Developer Dallas, Tx #17 amirrajan, Jan 27, 2014 Last edited: Jan 27, 2014 Wow. Thank you for the heart felt post nightshade3. One thing I've learned is that you take care of your fans and not worry too much about everyone else. A Dark Room has a close knit community and the games popularity has been spread mostly from word to mouth. Being on the budget that I am, it's very difficult to spend money on advertising. And frankly, the best form of credibility comes from those that have experienced the game and share with others. I literally laughed out loud at one of the one star reviews I recently got: "its a white screen those 5 star ratings are rigged the game is junk" But those are the moments that are the greatest, because I (and hopefully after you play the game, we) know how incredibly beautiful this game is. And it does it in a humble, quiet way that's hard to describe. May the fire burn brightly for you. As far as the technical aspects: The game took 4 months to port over. It has over 10 thousand lines of code. Best way to describe the length would be a 100 page book. It's incredibly frustrating finding bugs and when play testing you sometimes forget the charm of the game. There were points where I thought "this game is crap, no one will play it." But that's mostly because of the mind numbing play throughs you have to do to make sure every inch is tested and bug free. Thankfully the reviews have been mostly good. There are some people that just don't "get it", but that makes it all the more satisfying when someone does. But every review is taken personally (no matter how hard you try to realize that you can't please everyone). I guess it's just the nature of doing something you love. You put your heart and soul into it and very few people can relate. Being independent is stressful at times. I took a **significant** pay cut doing my own thing, with that comes a lot of stress. So I'm not sure how long I can hold out. I may have to throw in the towel and start a 9-5 again. But at least I tried amirrajan Well-Known Member Jan 14, 2014 87 0 0 Software Developer Dallas, Tx #18 amirrajan, Jan 27, 2014 5 Codes left background and nightshade3 have received promo codes. 5 left! I've worked with different needs for a long time including some in my own family. Blindness, deafness, mental health, paralysis, behavioral health, autism...... It is so nice to see when people go out of there way to make sure that not only "able bodied" get to enjoy the fun stuff. It sometimes seems like its a hidden community when not many will speak up or out. Awareness is important. I'm just 1 person in a huge world. But I still want to say THANK YOU for making sure that the same thing is available for those with a little extra difference. You are awesome! The game: I installed, opened & played. At first I thought, oh neat, another simple text based game! I actually love text games. I figured I'd play it for a couple minutes just to check it out. Well..... I looked up later and realized, over 30 minutes had passed! I also realized, it's more then just a simple text based game. A pleasent surprise. Needless to say, I like this game. I appreciate that it automatically saves. I love the different choices and the bits of activity. The only thing that would make me love A Dark Room even more, would be if when someone is offering to sell me something, would be the ability to check my inventory at that moment (for strategy purposes). Also, in the build section; it would be nice if when I am at max capacity (or can not build more of a specific item) if the box/button was shaded or had a mark of some kind. An X? It doesn't really matter. I'll still play. I'll probably have to set a timer or alarm to let me know it's time to stop. Shame on you! Just kidding. Seriously, Thanks for such a great game. nerdherd Well-Known Member Feb 11, 2012 993 0 0 #20 nerdherd, Jan 27, 2014 Get a lot of news from the blog Game seems interesting Wanna try it!
