I used to dislike the game, but now I'm in the mood for giving it another shot. Just wondering if any clones have actually managed to improve on the formula or if PvZ is still the benchmark? Also, does PvZ or any of its clones support retina? It's not usually a dealbreaker for me but if I'm going to buy a game I'm not sure about it might as well look nice.
I think there's one called Bears vs. Penguins or something like that. It's not as good as PvZ, however.
Dont think there is any clone which is better than PvZ itself. As far as retina is concerned, it doesnt have it yet, though they did mention about retina support a month or two ago. Popcap is one of the slowest devs to update their games. Remember how long it took for peggle update?
Monster Mayhem is the best I've played. Give it a chance, it's fun, really polished, and has quite a decent amount of content.
Dictator Defense kept me occupied waiting for the release of Plants vs Zombies. It is by Digital Chocolate but I do not think there has been an update at all since its release so presumably no retina. Granted I haven't played it since Plants vs Zombies but it was engaging when I was playing it. There have been a few others whose names escape me at the moment since they were just NOT Plants vs Zombies and I just could not keep playing. I just started Pets Wars which after one level looks awfully similar to it as well but will hold off any impressions until more playtime! (making sure this is a current OP question and not a thread resurrection before posting -- done)
They are called Tower Defense Games. Type it in the search box on ITunes and you will find a whole bunch of games.
Square enix has a game like PvZ called Vanguard Storm wich is very good but i wouldnt call it a clone since it came out at the same time as PvZ
I too found Leave Devil Alone to be amazingly good for a PvZ clone despite some translation issues. Really a nice game. Monster Mayhem is highly recommended but I wouldn't compare it to PvZ since you slide slash, tap gun, etc approaching enemies rather than plant external units. Although both involve waves of villians.
Here are some screenshots for the comparison of PVZ games: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=87641&page=3 While since PVZ is stemmed from warcraft TD game, these PVZ clones just put all improvement brought by PVZ back to simply TD game. While if someone really want to find a decent P game, I agree bagwell that Pets War is the closest one.
