Coming in June! http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Multiformat/Summoner+Wars/news.asp?c=40580&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PocketGamerLatestNews+%28Pocket+Gamer+-+Latest+news%29
Very much looking forward to it - I've been curious about the game for a while, but didn't get the Master Set because of the likely difficulty in finding players. Async online multiplayer should fix that.
More info and an interview. Visit the iOS Board Games Blog on BGG for more info from the Origins Game Fair and upcoming iOS games. Enjoy!
Playdek has confirmed on their Facebook page that they’re still aiming for June availability. On their official Web site, they have added more information about the game and some new screenshots. The wait may soon be over.
How easy is this for a non-MtG noob to pick up? I just picked up Magic 2013, and I'm struggling with it a bit. Ascension and Nightfall were no problem. I'm just wondering where this falls.... Thanks!
I think you will find it easier then Magic 2013 but more in depth then Ascension or Nightfall. Think of it as a MtG Lite combined with Chess. Here is a video on how to play the physical version. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
You'll be just fine. The core ruleset is simpler and easier to understand than Nightfall. The complexity in the game comes from knowing what's in your deck. Each Summoner deck only has 12 cards that you need read to understand how the deck plays. Summoner Wars is a perfect design for async play. There is alot to consider during your turn, so taking some time to consider each option is helpful. We modified the design of a couple of cards to make them work better with async, so there are only a handful of cards that create decisions for your opponent during your turn (and they don't come up in play all that often). Plus, you'll be able to try out the first faction as a free download, so you can give it a try before you have to commit to buying any of the IAP decks. (Although at least one $1 purchase is required to unlock online play).
I know one faction will be free and that you have to pay 99 cents to get access to multiplayer, but is there any info on how much it will cost to buy all factions at once?
I've been trying to get as much info here as possible. Most of the interest has been seen over at Board Game Geeks. I think the delay in release was an issue that quelled the initial hype. Hopefully the screenshots released in the last couple of weeks and the gameplay video posted just hours prior to submission yesterday will help build excitement over the next few days.
Fans of async strategy games are going to be rejoicing soon! If you have never played the game, you've been mising out. But, soon that will all change when the app hits the store. The game takes like 5-10 minutes to learn, but mastering it is a whole different thing. Because of the light deck building and the sheer volume of strategic approaches to the game, it never gets old. I am looking forward to all the new surprises I'm bound to encounter by playing a wider variety of players. Even during play testing, I felt my skills improve quite a bit. This app will become a permanent fixture on many i-devices.
